Jennifer Lopez Got This Crucial Superpower From Her Dad
When we look at Jennifer Lopez, we can’t help but wonder, “How does she do it?”
Fifty-one-year-old J.Lo has been in the biz for three decades, and she seems to literally do everything: she dances, acts, sings, and even parents young twins. She’s a true show business superstar and an inspiration to women everywhere.
Recently, Lopez sat down with her fiancé (and MLB legend) Alex Rodriguez in an interview for his YouTube/podcast series The Corp, and talked about what she’s inherited from her parents that has helped her become so incredibly successful in life.
Jennifer Lopez’s incredible career that spans decades
The world was introduced to Lopez’s beauty in 1997 when she starred as the infamous Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez in the biopic, Selena.
This was Lopez’s breakthrough role, and even Selena’s most die-hard fans couldn’t deny that Lopez did a fantastic job playing their beloved idol. This movie launched Lopez’s acting career almost immediately, and she went on shortly after to star in some of our favorite 90s and early 2000s movies like Anaconda, The Wedding Planner, and Maid in Manhattan.
Of course, Lopez’s acting career hasn’t slowed down whatsoever decades later; some of her more recent films include Hustlers.
What some people don’t know is that before she got chosen to star in Selena, JLo was a struggling dancer. She quickly showed the world her moves with her music and dancing career, releasing radio hit after radio hit.
She recently showed the world that she’s still got it when she performed at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show alongside fellow Latina music star, Shakira.
Jennifer Lopez says that ‘calm’ is the superpower that she got from her dad
In the interview for his podcast, Lopez’s fiance Rodriguez (also known as A-Rod) complimented her on her incredible success in the industry, and then asked his love: “When you think about your talents […], tell me one or two characteristics that you got – positive ones – from Lupe, and one from David; mom and dad.”
Lopez expressed delight over the unique question, and then went on to respond that calmness is a positive quality that she feels she inherited from her father that has helped her tremendously in her line of work.
“I think my dad… being calm as a superpower, I got that from him,” Lopez shared. She explained how this ability to stay calm has helped her achieve the success that she has:
“I realize that in show business, that is something that is paramount. You have to know how to like, stay calm in very high pressure situations. Whether you’re in front of 20,000 [fans] – if you’re at the Super Bowl performing, or if you’re on a set somewhere, or if you’re in an interview that gets a little hazy and everything’s on the line; you have to be able to stay super calm. It is a real superpower, and I think I got that from my dad.”
JLo says that she got the “It Factor” from her mother
Responding to the other part of A-Rod’s question, Lopez stated that the “star quality” that she seems to naturally possess, which has made her a beloved figure to so many people around the world, is what her mother passed down to her.
“My mom is very outgoing, as you know; a ‘life of the party’ person,” she explained. “If there’s any such thing as ‘the It Factor’ or ‘star quality’, I got it from my mom.”
She continued, “Lupe should have been a huge star, because she has that charisma, that ‘thing’, and I got that from her.”
We love the combination of J.Lo’s down-to-earth personality with her fierce diva stage persona!
