Jennifer Lopez Hinted That She and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Were Incompatible Shortly Before Their Split
Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs dated between 1999 and 2001. Their relationship was a rocky one, marred by infidelity, breakups, and a court case. They didn’t go into much public detail about their romance, but Lopez once spoke about their differences. The interview, which came out not long before they split for good, hinted at trouble between the couple.
Jennifer Lopez spoke about the different lifestyle preferences she and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs had
In 2001, Lopez said she had no plans to marry, but he frequently told her he wanted a divorce.
“[We’ve been together for] two years,” Lopez told Rolling Stone. “It’s a lot. He’s said to me many times, ‘I want a divorce.’ I’ll be away so much, or he’ll be … he can’t get away, whatever, but he’ll say, ‘So, where do I send the papers?’”
She said that all was well between them. Still, she acknowledged that their preferred ways of living their lives didn’t align.
“Puff loves to go out,” she said. “He’s been a going-out-to-clubs person all his life, doing his thing. I’ve always been a homebody. So we switch off what we do when we’re together.”
Lopez added that she didn’t like to talk much about their relationship
While Lopez gave a glimpse into her life with Diddy, she said she didn’t want to go into detail.
“I don’t really like to talk about us, because I don’t feel like it’s anybody’s business,” she said. “It’s a separate thing. He’s an artist, I’m an artist, we have two separate careers.”
She believed that as a celebrity, she had to protect her private life as much as she could.
“There are some things you have to keep sacred and private,” she said. “In this business, your soul is so public and open and out there for everybody. There is no privacy. There really isn’t. At the end of the day, you really have to fight to keep certain things sacred so that they survive. And sometimes they don’t, and that’s life, but you try.”
Jennifer Lopez said Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was not faithful during their relationship
By the end of the year, Lopez and Diddy broke up for good. In the years following their split, Lopez has spoken about why things ended. While she never found definite proof, she felt confident that he was cheating on her.
“It was the first time I was with someone who wasn’t faithful,” she told Vibe Magazine (per Entertainment Weekly). “I was in this relationship with Puff where I was totally crying, crazy, and going nuts, it really took my whole life in a tailspin.”
When she didn’t join him on a night out, he regularly wouldn’t come home until the following day.
“I never caught him but I just knew,” she said. “He’d say he was going to a club for a couple of hours and then never come back that night.”
