Jennifer Lopez Just Proved Her Daughter Emme Is Going to Be a Superstar Like Her
When Jennifer Lopez and Shakira took the halftime stage during the Super Bowl, people knew what they were going to deliver. A high-energy, sexy show with messages of woman power and pride in Latino culture ensued.
But what they weren’t expecting was for Lopez’s daughter, Emme, to join them. When she stepped into the spotlight, accompanied by a children’s choir, Emme wowed the crowd with her clear voice and confident performance
Lopez’s daughter was a hit in her cameo performance at the Super Bowl, leaving people buzzing about her future in the singing business. And when you consider her background, a career in music seems almost a given.
Emme is the daughter of two musical superstars
Emme and her twin brother Max have two parents with remarkable musical talent. Not only do they have the remarkable Lopez for a mom, but their dad is Marc Anthony, the wildly popular Latin music artist.
The twins were born in 2008, during Anthony and Lopez’s marriage. The couple split up in 2011 and the divorce was final in 2014.
Anthony has been married and divorced again since then. Lopez is engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez. The exes remain friendly as they co-parent their twins.
With two such musical powerhouses for parents, it’s no surprise that even at 11 years old Emme was able to pull off the performance she did at the Super Bowl. After all, that wasn’t even her first time on stage.
This wasn’t Emme’s first time singing with her mom
In July of last year, Lopez celebrated her 50th birthday with a lavish party at Gloria Estefan’s Miami mansion. During the star-studded event, both Emme and Max sang for their mom.
Max rapped a few lines from the musical Hamilton. Meanwhile, Emme sang “Do You Know Where You’re Going To” from Mahogany and “Hard Knock Life” from the musical Annie.
Emme has also performed with her mom in other settings, like when she joined her on stage during a concert at The Forum to sing Lopez’s hit Limitless with her. With all that practice, it’s no surprise that Emme was able to give such a flawless performance at the Super Bowl.
She came on stage, singing a slower rendition of Lopez’s hit “Let’s Get Loud,” then leading into a few lines of “Born in the U.S.A.” She not only hit all the notes with ease, but it looked like she was enjoying herself. Apparently that’s not unusual for the budding singer.
Emme seems to be born to perform
Lopez says that Emme has a natural comfort on stage. On The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, she explained: “She has the performance gene where she doesn’t let it in her mind, how big it is or how it scares you. That’s what you have to do when you’re up there.”
But if you think that means she’s just like her mom, Lopez wouldn’t quite agree. That voice? It comes right from her dad.
“She’s got her daddy’s voice. She’s amazing,” Lopez said in an interview last year. “It’s natural. Emme could always sing. I remember when she was in the crib, when she was a baby, she used to be humming, like, really humming to herself.”
Clearly, Emme has the raw talent and love of performing she needs to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps, as well as plenty of encouragement from her mom. Will all this lead to a future in the music business? Only time will tell. But if Emme ends up a superstar no one will be very surprised.
