Jennifer Lopez Says She Was ‘Literally Wearing Nothing’ in This Movie Scene
Jennifer Lopez must challenge herself for each movie role she takes on. One of her most challenging films to prepare for was Hustlers. Lopez not only learned how to pole dance but also had to appear in skimpy outfits. Here’s what J.Lo said about “literally wearing nothing” for the role.
Jennifer Lopez prepared for ‘Hustlers’ by going to a strip club
Lopez prepared for her role as Ramona in Hustlers by visiting a New York strip club with her ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez. She says she went to the club so she could observe the dancers and learn their behavior. Lopez also took time to talk to some of the dancers.
“As an actress, what you do is observe,” says Lopez during her interview on The Breakfast Club radio show. “I’m really just trying to soak up behavior, soak up feel, atmosphere. I was watching how they did lap dances, how different girls performed on stage, the interaction, their attitude.”
Jennifer Lopez says she was ‘literally wearing nothing’ in ‘Hustlers’
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lopez says she was practically naked during her big pole dancing scene in Hustlers. However, she was prepared. She tells The Breakfast Club she got ready for her role by working with her personal trainer and adjusting her diet. One big adjustment Lopez made was switching to a no-carb, no sugar diet. She says she ate a lot of meat and cheese during the 10-day challenge.
“I was so ready for it, I was prepared, I knew exactly what I was doing,” Lopez tells Entertainment Tonight. “And as I walked to the stage in dental floss, literally wearing nothing, I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, what am I doing with my life right now? Oh my God.’ And then after I did it, I really got into the mindset of, ‘I’m going to take all your money. That’s what I’m going to do right now.’ It’s a mindset that these girls have.”
Jennifer Lopez was nervous about appearing in ‘Hustlers’
Lopez tells Variety she was initially nervous about doing a pole dancing scene. However, she realized she had to build up her confidence and just go for it.
“I was terrified,” says Lopez. “I felt exposed. I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything like this. I’m going to be up there in f***ing dental floss. What is this? Who is this person?’ And then you get up there, and you have to have a ‘f*** you,’ empowered attitude. You have to take your power back. You have to be so bold.”
Lopez compares getting up in front of people and dancing on a pole to being a rockstar and singing at a concert. She says confidence is key.
“It’s almost like when you say you’re a rock star, you have to be arrogant to go up there in front of all those people or you crumble,” says in her Variety interview. “You realize it’s the same type of balls that it takes to do something like that. And these women have that. They are tough, hard, vulnerable, and damaged. It’s a great character to play.”
