Jennifer Lopez Says She Learned How to Hustle from Her Parents
Jennifer Lopez went from performing as a fly girl in the comedy show In Living Color to becoming a successful actor and singer. She says she got to the place she is today because of the lessons her parents taught her about hard work.
Jennifer Lopez says she works harder than everyone else
Jennifer Lopez doesn’t shy away from hard work. She says she stays ahead of the competition not just by working hard but working harder than everyone else. She says she is “relentless” when it comes to the way she approaches work.
“My business philosophy is that you just have to work harder than everybody else,” says Lopez during an interview with Variety.
“I think we all think we’re working hard all the time,” she continues. “My kids are like, ‘We know you work hard,’ and I’m like, ‘No, it’s not just that I work hard, it’s that I put in harder work than everybody else. I work harder, and harder, and harder. When everybody is sleeping, I’m doing more. And that’s what it takes to have that kind of success. It’s just a relentless pursuit of creativity.”
Jennifer Lopez learned how to hustle from her parents
In her book, True Love, Lopez says she learned about the importance of hard work from her parents. She says they hustled and worked hard so they could send her and her sisters to good schools and provide for the family. She says one important lesson she learned from them is that you work to earn a living but once you make enough money to live, you shouldn’t stop working hard.
Although Lopez has enough money to sustain her lifestyle, she says she doesn’t sit back and take it easy. She learned from her parents to continue working hard even after she reached her goals and obtained financial stability. She mentions that her mother worked two jobs and her father worked nights at an insurance company.
Hard work keeps her grounded
Lopez might be a successful singer and actress, but she says hard work is what keeps her grounded. She mentions in her book that she didn’t release her first record until she was 28 years old. Lopez shares that she had to work very hard for many years before she finally made it in the entertainment industry.
According to Lopez, the song “Jenny on the Block” is about remembering where she came from and acknowledging the struggle it took to become a professional entertainer. She makes sure to mention her hometown of the Bronx during her concerts. She says she wants her fans to see both sides of her and understand what makes her the person she is today.
