Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs dated on and off between 1999 and 2001. Throughout their relationship and after their breakup, Lopez heard rumors of Combs’ infidelity. While she said she never had definitive proof that he was unfaithful, she constantly felt as if he was. She shared why she became convinced he was cheating.

Jennifer Lopez said she had a gut feeling that Diddy was cheating on her

When Lopez and Diddy met, he lavished her with attention, telling her he loved her almost immediately. This initially made Lopez uncomfortable, but he eventually won her over. As their relationship wore on, though, the feelings of discomfort crept back in.

”It was the first time I was with someone who wasn’t faithful,” she told Vibe Magazine (per Entertainment Weekly). ”I was in this relationship with Puff where I was totally crying, crazy, and going nuts, it really took my whole life in a tailspin.”

She grew increasingly concerned about his fidelity. While she never caught him cheating on her, she was confident he was not faithful.

“I never caught him but I just knew,” she said. “He’d say he was going to a club for a couple of hours and then never come back that night.”

Diddy himself admitted he was often unfaithful in relationships. In a 2015 appearance on The Breakfast Club, he said his partners would often be frustrated with his behavior.

“If I’m in a relationship with you, 25 percent of your time, you’re gonna just feel like, ‘Aw, man, I hate being here, this guy cheated on me, he lied on me,’” he said, per Rolling Stone.

Jennifer Lopez said the end of her relationship with Diddy was exhausting

By the end of the relationship, Lopez had grown weary of this dynamic. She admitted they broke up and got back together far more than the public knew. In 2001, they ended things for good.

“It wasn’t a great time in my life,” she told Vanity Fair, referencing a 1999 nightclub shooting. “It was scary. And we broke up many times before that, and got back together and broke up again, and nobody knew about it. It was very tempestuous. Towards the end it was emotionally exhausting. It was good that I was young.”

She married quickly after the relationship ended

Shortly after her split from Diddy, Lopez threw herself into a relationship with dancer Cris Judd. They married in 2001 and divorced less than two years later. She fell so quickly because she saw Judd as the opposite of Diddy.

“Coming out of a torrid relationship, I meet this sweet person who’s so refreshing,” she said. ”But marriage is not just about love. I thought I had learned that in my first marriage … I loved Cris, still love him, he’s one of the best people.”

While she said it wasn’t easy to walk away, she quickly realized that she had to.

“This wasn’t an easy thing to walk away from, but we didn’t have what it takes to make a marriage work … Cris knows the last thing I ever wanted in this f***ing world was to hurt him.”

Shortly after her split from Judd, Lopez began a relationship with Ben Affleck.
