After weeks of rumors, Jennifer Lopez has confirmed her split from Ben Affleck

The singer filed for divorce in Los Angeles on August 20. The couple, who married in 2022, has been separated for months. But the date Lopez chose to officially move to end her marriage is significant.

In her filing, Lopez listed the date of her and Affleck’s separation as April 26, 2024. The pair – who first dated in the early 200s – legally married in a small Las Vegas wedding on July 16, 2022. But they said “I do” a second time in a larger and more lavish ceremony in Georgia. The date of that event? August 20, 2022.

Given the significance of the day in the couple’s relationship, it’s hard to believe that Lopez – who filed for divorce without the help of an attorney, according to TMZ – chose to end her marriage on August 20 coincidentally.

Lopez said ‘old wounds were healed’ on her and Ben Affleck’s wedding day

Lopez previously opened up about how much her and Affleck’s second wedding ceremony meant to her. She said she saw it as a new beginning for their relationship.

“When he saw me appear at the top of the stairs that moment it both made absolute sense while seeming still impossibly hard to believe, like the best dream, where all you want is never to awaken,” she wrote in her On the JLo newsletter in September 2022 of the moment Affleck first saw her as she prepared to walk down the aisle (via People).

“Some old wounds were healed that day and the weight of the past finally lifted off our shoulders,” she added. “Full-circle — and not at all the way we planned it. Better.”

The end of Lopez and Affleck’s marriage comes after months of rumors that the couple had broken up. In July, they put their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion up for sale, not long after Lopez abruptly canceled her “This Is Me … Live” tour.

The pair did not have a prenup, according to TMZ. In her filing, Lopez waived spousal support and asked that Affleck also not receive such support. Sources told the tabloid that they are attempting to negotiate how they’ll divide their assets post-divorce, but that those talks are not going well.

Affleck and Lopez live in California, which is a community property state. Everything each person earned during the marriage is jointly owned. During their time together, he worked on movies such as Air and The Accountant 2, while she launched a line of ready-made cocktails and released a new album and a companion film.
