Jennifer Lopez Confessed The Truth About Wearing the Iconic Versace Dress Twice
Jennifer Lopez has quite the resume. She’s an incredible dancer and also has made a name for herself as an actress and a singer. JLo is also revered for maintaining her incredible figure and looking far younger than her fifty years. Furthermore, Lopez is well-known as a fashionista. Loyal fans are always interested to see how her unique style will manifest itself on the red carpet. But, though the Hustlers actress gets tons of attention for her wardrobe, no outfit will ever be as iconic as the Versace dress that she wore not once, but twice.
The Versace dress that inspired Google Images
Lopez first donned the dress back in February of 2000. She was 30 years old at the time and she was attending the 2000 Grammy Awards. The barely-there dress is made of chiffon but is flowing and bohemian in style. It also features a colorful green and yellow jungle print. The dress drew so much attention, that it quickly became the most popular search query that Google had seen at the time. In fact, people were so interested in the iconic Versace dress that it inspired Google to create Google Images. The engineers at the company felt that people weren’t satisfied with simply reading about the dress, they wanted the opportunity to see it firsthand. Though it took some time for them to build out the feature, they certainly credit JLo for getting the ball rolling.
JLo wears the iconic green dress again
But, 2000 wasn’t the only time that Lopez donned the Versace dress. Nearly 20 years later, the “On The Floor” singer rocked the dress yet again. At age 50, Lopez strutted her stuff once more in the famous gown. She closed out the 2020 Versace fashion show, looking every bit as good (if not better) than when she wore the dress at 30. The second time Lopez wore the dress was just as impactful as the first and the actress once again went viral.
A last-minute Grammy’s look
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, JLO got candid about what it was really like to wear the Versace dress both times. The singer confessed that the first time she wore the jungle dress, it was her only option. She never expected to get as much attention as she did for it. “That’s a good question, baby. The first time I wore it, I actually didn’t have another dress. Usually, I have choices. It was a last-minute thing that caused a sensation that was unexpected,” the 50-year-old declared. The first time wearing the dress couldn’t have been more different from the second. Lopez recalled how thoroughly executed wearing the dress a second time was.
How Jennifer Lopez felt about wearing the gown again
“The second time was very planned-out. It started at the Met ball; Donatella said, ‘You know, this year is the 20th anniversary of the jungle dress,’ and I said no, I didn’t. And she goes, ‘I think I’m going to do a whole show about it. Would you come?’ And I said, ‘Of course. Just call me.’ You know, it’s all timing—schedules and stuff. And then she wound up calling and said, ‘I want you to walk at the end, and I want you to come out in the dress.’ ‘The same dress?’ ‘The same dress. We’ll make a new one for you,'” Lopez recounted.
Age ain’t nothin’ but a number
JLo continued on to share how she felt putting the Versace dress on once more. “The second time I wore it and walked out there, it was such an empowering thing. Twenty years had gone by, and I think for women, knowing you can put on a dress 20 years later—it resonated. It was like, ‘Yes, you know, life is not over at 20!'” the Enough actress shared. We love that this was such an empowering moment for Lopez. She continues to prove that age ain’t nothing but a number.
