Jennifer Lopez Will Never Win an Oscar Because Hollywood Looks at Her As a ‘Kardashian,’ Source Says
Jennifer Lopez continues to make headlines due to her divorce finalization from Ben Affleck. While the multihyphenate adores loves and has had many high-profile romances, she wants to be remembered for her incredible work in music and movies. Unfortunately, a source explained why Lopez is unlikely to ever win an Oscar due to her current reputation.
Jennifer Lopez is unlikely to ever win an Oscar because of how Hollywood views her, according to a source
Jennifer Lopez works hard for her success. She’s released nine studio albums and has starred in over 35 feature-length films. Her breakout biopic, Selena, earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 1997. In 2025, Lopez continues to act with the possibility of award recognition. Sadly, Lopez didn’t earn a nod from the Academy for her work in Unstoppable, where she plays Judy Robles, the mother of NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles.
A source told NewsNation why the Academy didn’t award Lopez an Oscar nod ahead of the 2025 Academy Awards. “People see J.Lo as a celebrity — not an actress,” the source shared.
Previously, another source who allegedly knows Lopez and Affleck shared this sentiment with the publication. The source spoke on Lopez’s Bridgerton-themed birthday party which was infamously missing her husband at the time, Ben Affleck.
“Where are her real friends? She doesn’t have any anymore,” the second source shared. “She’s turned herself into a Kardashian: All pictures and paparazzi, oversharing everything and no actual substance.”
Unstoppable isn’t Lopez’s first Oscar snub. She hoped for a nomination with Hustlers and discussed her disappointment in her documentary, Halftime.
“The truth is, I really started to think I was gonna get nominated,” Lopez explained. “I got my hopes up because so many people were telling me I would be. And then it didn’t happen.”
Jennifer Lopez allegedly had high hopes to win an Oscar for ‘Unstoppable’
Jennifer Lopez put her heart and soul into her Unstoppable performance. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, likely leaving her disappointed once more. A source told DailyMail.com in October 2024 that Lopez had a “sensational” performance in the 2024 film that she hoped would stand out to the Academy.
“She wants an Oscar for Unstoppable,” the source shared. “She is sensational in it. I saw the movie and wow, she nails it. I think a lot of people have discounted her acting skills because she is such a glamazon but this film is a wake-up call, like, hey guys, she can really act her pants off.”
The source added that Lopez “wanted the Oscar for Hustlers,” as previously stated, but the “prejudice against her” didn’t allow for the nomination.
“There is a hope that she will get the gold for Unstoppable,” the source continued well before the reveal of the nomination list.
The insider added that Lopez’s split from Affleck might’ve helped her chances to get in good with the Academy. “It helps that she is now seen as the victim in the Affleck split,” they guessed. “I think voters may want to give her the award now; they feel she has been through a lot.”
Ben Affleck once had high hopes that his ex would get Academy recognition
Jennifer Lopez shared her disappointment over not getting nominated for Hustlers. And Ben Affleck shared the surprise. Affleck told The New York Times that Lopez was “the real thing” and deserved the nomination.
“She should have been nominated,” Affleck said in 2020. “She’s the real thing. I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her. How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50? That’s fucking baller.”
Affleck also praised Lopez’s performance in Unstoppable, calling her “spectacular.”
