Ben Affleck has a history of alcohol addiction that affected his personal and professional life. He’s talked candidly about his stints in rehab in the past, and since dating and marrying Jennifer Lopez in 2022, fans haven’t heard much about his sobriety. In 2023, Lopez started a cocktail business that might’ve rubbed Affleck the wrong way. Here’s what an insider said about how the brand “devastated” Affleck and might influence the couple’s choice to divorce.

Jennifer Lopez’s cocktail brand might be part of the reason for her divorce from Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez loves the business of Hollywood, and she continues to cater to fans in 2024. While Ben Affleck prefers to stay out of the spotlight, Lopez continues to make music and plans to tour. In 2023, she started a new cocktail brand, Delola, that got fans talking.

“Delola is crafted to set you free,” the website for the business states. “Our ready to enjoy world class crafted cocktails have been thoughtfully crafted with premium liquor, natural botanicals, are lower in calories* and are gluten free. With Delola, you can have all the fun without all the effort.”

Unfortunately, the brand didn’t sit well with Affleck. Affleck has openly discussed his alcoholism in the past, as he stayed in rehab several times. Alcohol also profoundly affected his relationship with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who staged an intervention for him at one point. A friend of Affleck’s said the actor was “devastated” by Delola.

“Ben had to fight to get his life back after overcoming alcohol,” a friend of Affleck’s said, according to Yahoo. “Knowing how he lost everything, including the love of his family, knowing that he could possibly relapse, Jen decided to start her own spritzer line for more money, as if she did not have enough.”

Insiders added that the brand and Lopez’s “obsession with fame” led to their want to divorce.

Why Ben Affleck Hasn’t Pulled the Divorce Trigger With Jennifer Lopez Yet

Ben Affleck hasn’t touched alcohol in years. While he and Jennifer Lopez allegedly have marital troubles that seem to lead to divorce in 2024, it seems unlikely that Affleck will fall off the wagon.

“He’s genuinely grateful for his sobriety, and I don’t think he’s falling off the wagon again anytime soon,” an insider told The Sun. “But he’s still got the weight of the world hanging over his shoulders every day, and Jennifer doesn’t, despite the recent bad fortune with her tour and new music. She doesn’t ‘do’ misery, at least not around the people closest to her.”

Affleck also has the support of his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who lives nearby. Garner stayed by Affleck’s side for years as he dealt with alcohol addiction. He was photographed with her frequently as the media noticed his marital issues with Lopez.

He once clarified that he didn’t blame his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, for his alcoholism

Ben Affleck felt “trapped” in his marriage to Jennifer Garner. While he still loves and respects his ex-wife, he wasn’t happy with their life together. In 2023, Affleck spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how he doesn’t blame Garner for his alcoholism despite how the media painted him.

“I was trying to say, ‘Hey, look, I was drinking too much, and the less happy you become, whether it’s your job, your marriage, it’s just that as your life becomes more difficult, if you’re doing things to fill a hole that aren’t healthy, you’re going to start doing more of those things,’ Affleck explained. “I think I was pretty articulate about that. It was the New York Post who deliberately mischaracterized it in order to make it clickbait, and everyone else then picked it up, and it didn’t matter how many times I said, ‘I do not feel this way. I’m telling you, I don’t blame my ex-wife for my alcoholism.’ So, yeah. It’s hard.”
