Jennifer Lopez has had a rockin’ body for decades. Her curvy figure encouraged people over multiple generations to embrace all shapes and sizes.

In fact, she may have even inspired the famous Sir Mix A Lot song. Lopez is over 50 years old, but she still manages to inspire people of all ages to stay fit. Her example is still leading women towards a healthier outlook and figure — especially on the internet.

Jennifer Lopez encouraged a viral body-positivity challenge

After posting a photo of herself in a white bikini to social media, Lopez unknowingly kicked off a new internet challenge. Of course, she looked fantastic in the picture. With toned muscles and smooth skin, Lopez got the attention of a popular fitness leader.

Maria Kang runs a fitness community and social media empire called No Excuse Mom. She encourages moms and busy women to stop making excuses and start taking care of themselves with healthy eating and exercise. When she saw Lopez’s post on Instagram, she decided to use it as inspiration for fitness at any age.

Kang posted a photo of herself in a white bikini, similar to Lopez’s. “Thank you @jlo for inspiring this spontaneous pic in a white bikini this morning,” she wrote in the caption, before going on to point out that her bathroom is a mess, she’s not a celebrity, and the photo was far from perfect. But Kang wanted women to know that even with those obstacles in front of her, she was making fitness happen and taking care of her body.

“Own your story. Create your own accountability. Don’t make excuses for your inaction. If she can do it, if I can do it, if thousands of working moms who come in all sizes, shapes and ages can do it – then YOU CAN DO IT!!!” Kang wrote.

Women everywhere took on the Jennifer Lopez Challenge

Women from all over the internet heard her call and took up the challenge. Soon the hashtag had been used by women of all ages, shapes, and sizes to share their own photos and inspire others.

“I am a 37 year old wife, mother, business owner and a proud member of the #noexcusemom community…” one woman wrote in the caption of her photo on Instagram. “There’s a point in our lives where we have to accept that we all come in different SHAPES & SIZES and embrace the stage that we are in… I will continue to take care of myself and NOT make excuses on why I’m not taking care of myself, but instead finding REASONS.”

After thanking Lopez for encouraging her bathroom selfies, another woman wrote in the caption of her picture, “Our lives doesn’t have to end when we become mothers, it adds to it. We are moms, we’re capable of doing anything we set our minds to.”

Lopez doesn’t just inspire women by looking fabulous, she often shares her own advice and tips to encourage healthy habits. It genuinely seems like she wants women everywhere to be happy, healthy, and thrive.

For example, in a video that Lopez did with InStyle about “reinventing yourself.” Lopez offered lots of great advice. She encouraged viewers to keep themselves challenged by trying new things.

“You’re here until you’re dead. So, you might as well do shit,” Lopez wisely said. She also told viewers to stop apologizing and to take small steps toward changing their life.

When Lopez caught wind of the #JLO challenge online, she posted her reaction to her Instagram stories. “Keep growing, keep pushing,” she wrote, and then added the hashtags “self love,” “self care” and “inspire empower.”

Wise words from a woman who will always be beautiful at any age.
