Jennifer Lopez’s Mom Absolutely Did Not Want Her to Get Back With Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
Jennifer Lopez and Sean “Diddy” Combs dated on and off between 1999 and 2001. Over a decade after their breakup, Lopez was newly single, prompting some to wonder if she would reconsider a relationship with her ex. While Lopez laughed off the question, her mother seemed staunchly opposed to a reunion.

While Lopez said her relationship with Diddy was romantic and exciting at first, things quickly soured. The couple found themselves in the middle of a nightclub shooting in 1999 and, after they fled the scene, Lopez spent the night in jail. She said the relationship only continued to face problems. By the time they broke up, she was certain he was cheating on her.
“It wasn’t a great time in my life,” she told Vanity Fair in 2011. “It was scary. And we broke up many times before that, and got back together and broke up again, and nobody knew about it. It was very tempestuous. Towards the end it was emotionally exhausting. It was good that I was young.”
Her mother, Guadalupe Rodríguez, seemed well aware of the problems in the relationship. In 2015, Lopez appeared on The Wendy Williams Show and her mother sat in the audience. Williams mentioned that she always thought Lopez and Diddy could get back together. While Lopez laughed, cameras cut to Rodríguez. She mouthed “It’s done,” while making a dismissive motion with her hand.
“So no Puffy?” Williams asked Lopez.
“No Puffy,” she confirmed.
A detective claimed she yelled at her daughter about the relationship
According to one source, Rodríguez disapproved of the relationship as early as 1999. NYPD Detective Derrick Parker recalled Rodríguez coming to jail after the nightclub shooting and chewing out Lopez.
“Her mother was yelling at J.Lo in Spanish and she was really mad at Jennifer,” he told the New York Post. “I heard her say, ‘I told you not to get involved with (him).’”
Lopez spent 14 hours in jail, but police never charged her with anything.

In 2023, Diddy’s ex-partner, Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse. Since then, officials have raided his home and, this week, indicted him on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Lopez has not publicly spoken out about these allegations, but she is reportedly horrified by them.
“J. Lo is horrified by all of the accusations,” an insider told In Touch. “She and Diddy had talked about marriage at one point, but she left him for a reason. Now people want to know why and what she saw.”
She reportedly “shudders” when thinking about the allegations and no longer wants any association with her ex.
“There were many wild moments with Diddy, and it gives J. Lo the creeps to think that she was with him for so long,” the source said. “She wasn’t happy in the relationship.”
