‘Jeopardy!’: Alex Trebek Is Enjoying Time Off With These Favorite Things
As host of Jeopardy!, “America’s Favorite Quiz Show,” Alex Trebek has scores of fans.
And what do we love to know about our idols and stars more than the things they enjoy and love?
Here are a few of Alex Trebek’s favorite things that he’s enjoying while on break from Jeopardy! due to the ongoing pandemic.
Alex Trebek’s new book will be out in July 2020
Trebek’s memoir, The Answer Is . . . is due to be published on July 21, a day before his 80th birthday.
Although the Canadian-born Trebek has been hesitant until now to write a memoir of his life as host of the popular quiz show, he felt a greater need after his diagnosis with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March of 2019.
It was his fans’ overwhelming support and concern that gave him the impetus to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).
According to publisher Simon & Schuster, the book will pay tribute to Jeopardy! with chapter titles in the form of a question, as well as photos of Trebek that have, until the book’s publication, never before been seen.
The publisher also states the book will reveal Trebek’s views on epic contestants such as Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer, as well as on marriage, education, spirituality, and more.
Alex Trebek doesn’t mind celebrity spoofs of him
The television personality has made clear that he is perfectly fine with comic skits of him, as he adheres to the “imitation is the greatest form of flattery” philosophy.
When comedian Will Ferrell was a Saturday Night Live cast member, from 1996 to 2002, he played the role of Alex Trebek on the late night show.
The game show host spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in 2012 about the sketches of the quiz show with Ferrell imitating Trebek perfectly.
“Love them!,” Trebek said. “Oh I loved them, but they don’t do them anymore because Will Ferrell is no longer a regular on the show, and he used to portray me. Even after I had shaved my mustache, he was portraying me with a mustache.”
Trebek is an incredibly good sport, even telling the actor what a great job he did poking fun at Trebek’s expense.
“I was on his last regular show,” Trebek recalled, “and I did a little cameo appearance, and yeah, I told him how much I enjoyed his work as me on the program, and he was quite taken that I had noticed.”
So what are some of Alex Trebek’s favorite things?
On the Jeopardy! website, Alex Trebek provided insight into those things from which he derives the most joy.
The site shares that “Alex Trebek’s perfect day consists of fixing things around the house (without help, of course), and watching Turner Classic Movies.”
As for what the host enjoys doing when he’s winding down?
“A glass of chardonnay, a Snickers, and a marathon of Better Call Saul and This Week With John Oliver is his choice solution.”
Trebek loves reading a good John Grisham novel, about which he jokingly says that “the plus side to having a short memory is being able to read them over and over again.”
