‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Banters With Buzzy Cohen on Twitter
Matt Amodio continues his million-dollar winning streak on Jeopardy! and is getting shout outs from many former champs. James Holzhauer, Brad Rutter, and GOAT Ken Jennings have all posted their praise of the Ph.D. student’s run on the game show, and previous winner Buzzy Cohen recently mentioned Amodio on Twitter.
Buzzy Cohen posts a dreamy tweet about ‘Jeopardy!’ champ Matt Amodio
Cohen is no stranger to the Jeopardy! set. After winning the Tournament of Champions in 2017, Cohen was recruited to guest host the game show in May. Now with Amodio joining the top ranks of Jeopardy! champs, Cohen revealed he’s had the Ph.D. student on his mind.
“Had my first @AmodioMatt dream last night… extremely unsettling turn of events,” Cohen tweeted on Oct. 9.
Though Cohen didn’t divulge any dreamy details, Amodio gave a humorous reply.
“I think they make a pill for that now,’ Amodio wrote in response to the former Jeopardy! champ.
Matt Amodio gets tagged by ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ actor
Apparently, Amodio is getting attention from famous faces in addition to game show victors. Mrs. Doubtfire alum Harvey Fierstein recently posted a tweet about Amodio and made reference to his former Torch Song Trilogy co-star Estelle Getty.
“Estelle could see the future,” Fierstein wrote of The Golden Girls alum on Twitter on Oct. 9. “She told me all about @AmodioMatt years ago. She told me exactly how many games he’d win but I can’t divulge the information.”
Amodio saw the tweet and responded with a request. “Surely you can make an exception for me? I’d love to know!” the Yale student asked Fierstein.
Fierstein wouldn’t disclose the coveted information but encouraged Amodio to enjoy his winning streak.
“Oh, Cookie, living in the moment is the real secret to happiness,” Fierstein posted. “I’d never rob you of that. You are a shining example. Just keep breathing. All will be revealed. So saith Estelle. xoxox”
‘Jeopardy!’ champ gets a shout out from Ohio governor
Amodio is from Medina, Ohio and served as valedictorian of his high school in 2009, going on to graduate from Ohio State University. Now at Yale pursuing his Ph.D., the Jeopardy! star caught the eye of his native state’s governor.
“Congratulations and continued good luck to Ohio native Matt Amodio!” Governor Mike DeWine tweeted on Oct. 7. “He’s the current @Jeopardy champion who is now in second place for consecutive games won!”
Currently at 38 wins, Amodio surpassed Holzhauer’s record of second place for most consecutive wins and is closing in on Jennings’ total of 74. Winning over $1.5 million at the quiz board so far, Amodio has a ways to go before topping Jennings’ jackpot of over $2.5 million. The New Haven resident was content with his status after his very first victory.
“I wanted to win one game,” he told Vulture. “Being on the show is a tremendous accomplishment, and I don’t want to denigrate that at all. But once you win, you’re a Jeopardy! champion. You can call yourself a ‘Jeopardy! champion, not a ‘Jeopardy! participant’. That’s something nobody can take away from you… You might lose the next game, or you might lose 71 games later if you’re Ken Jennings. You’re going to lose eventually. But that never takes away from the descriptor. … I don’t think anything has surpassed that moment winning the first game.”
