Jessica Simpson Changed Her Phone Number to Dodge Calls From John Mayer After Their Brutal Split
Jessica Simpson and John Mayer shared a tumultuous relationship from 2006-2007. But according to the former pop star, they continued to see each other on and off for several years following their split. It ultimately ended in flames when Mayer humiliated Simpson by exposing details about their sex life to Playboy Magazine. And according to Simpson, she was so “done” with the singer that she had to change her phone number and email address just to avoid his messages.
When did Jessica Simpson and John Mayer start dating?
Mayer and Simpson became romantically involved not long after Simpson’s split with Nick Lachey. The two were married for three years before deciding to divorce. And just a year later, the “Irresistible” singer moved on to a relationship with Mayer.
During the honeymoon stages of Mayer and Simpson’s courtship, things seemed perfect. According to the pop star’s recently published memoir, Mayer made her feel beautiful in ways that Lachey never could.
“Again and again, he told me he was obsessed with me, sexually and emotionally,” she writes of Mayer. “The connection was so strong that he made me feel seductive, and he spoke about my body in a way that made me feel powerful. His focus on me was the opposite of my marriage,” says Simpson. “I would get up to go to the bathroom, and John would ask, ‘Where are you going?’ While I was married, my ex-husband couldn’t be bothered to figure out what city I was in. It felt safe to be so desired.”

Despite how desired she felt in her relationship with Mayer, several factors ultimately led to their split. One of the reasons they officially ended things was due to the fact that Mayer kept dumping her over the most trivial things. As she reveals in her memoir, he broke up with her a total of nine times throughout their courtship. Yikes!
But the straw that broke the camel’s back was when the “Your Body Is a Wonderland” singer openly discussed their sex life during an interview with Playboy Magazine. Simpson claims in her memoir that she was utterly humiliated by this, and she felt like he ruined her “good girl” image by doing so. Following the interview with Playboy, Simpson claimed that she never wanted to speak to Mayer again. And when he attempted to apologize, she refused to listen.
“I didn’t accept his apology,” Simpson writes in her memoir. “I deleted all his contact information from my phone. I was done with this man in a way I never thought was possible. When he reached out to me, I changed my number and changed my email. Delete.”

As Simpson admits in her biography, following Mayer’s crude comments in Playboy Magazine, she had “no interest in ever seeing him again.”
Fortunately, Simpson’s rocky relationship with Mayer is behind her. Now, the former pop star is happily married to ex-NFL player Eric Johnson. Together, they share three adorable children.
