Jessica Simpson is reportedly “doing OK” while co-parenting with her estranged husband, Eric Johnson, amid their split. The 44-year-old, who is said to be getting support from celebrity friends, has “figured out” some of the day-to-day parenting responsibilities as she enters this new chapter.

Jessica Simpson is ‘OK’ amid her split from husband Eric Johnson

“Jess is doing OK,” a source told People in the wake of Simpson’s split announcement. She and her estranged husband have “already figured out a new schedule for” their children, daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, and son, Ace, 11.

“The kids will always come first,” the insider added, saying Simpson and Johnson “are co-parenting” amid their split. They also described the singer and retired NFL player as both being “great parents.” Additionally, Simpson, 44, is “grateful” for the kids during the tough time.

Simpson and Johnson were first romantically linked in 2010. They went on to welcome Maxwell in 2012 and Ace in 2013 before getting married in a Montecito, Calif., ceremony in 2014, and welcoming Birdie in 2019.

Simpson and Johnson’s ‘trust issues’ led to a ‘trial’ separation that became permanent

According to Page Six, “trust issues” plagued Simpson’s marriage. “Jess and Eric had trust issues,” a source claimed. “They were no longer on the same page, and it drove a wedge between them.”

The source continued, saying it had been the “With You” singer’s idea to try take some space from each other. Although it didn’t turn out how she expected. “Jess thought it would help if they spent some time apart. But it only made her realize she enjoyed her independence,”  the insider said. So, what started “as a trial of sorts” eventually became permanent.

Simpson began spending more and more time in Nashville, Tenn., in 2023. As she told E! News at the time, she decided to relocate temporarily to be with “like-minded people.”

“It’s not about the celebrities—it’s really about the music and the heart and the conversation,” she told the outlet, saying she’d been “so happy” with the move. However, her time there was short-lived. Simpson went back to California in time for her kids to return to school.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.”

“We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family,” Simpson continued.

Two days before the split announcement, the pair put their family home in Hidden Hills, Calif., back on the market. It was previously listed for nearly a year from September 2023 to August 2024.
