Jill Duggar Demonstrates Her Skills as a Harpist in New Video and ‘Counting On’ Fans Are Very Impressed
Jill Duggar is quite the musician. The former Counting On star’s husband Derick Dillard recently shared a video of his wife playing the harp, and fans were blown away by what they heard.
“Fun family time during law school fall break = I get to be serenaded with beautiful harp music from Jill while I study! ” Derick wrote.
People were impressed by Jill’s skills
Commenters on Derick’s Instagram were impressed by the mom of three’s musical talents.
“So lovely! God bless,” wrote one.
“Beautiful. So talented,” commented another.
“I had no idea she played the harp!” added a surprised fan. Derick replied, noting that before he and Jill married, she would send him recordings of her playing music. “She would record her harp playing and send it to me while I was overseas :)” he wrote.
Another person told Derick that he “married up,” to which he agreed, writing, “I absolutely did.”
Jill Duggar has played music for years
Music was a big part of Jill’s life growing up. Like all the Duggar kids, she took music lessons as part of her homeschooling education. The harp is actually the third instrument she picked up, after first learning to play the piano and the violin.
“I took up piano lessons when I was 5 years old, and was happy to start violin lessons a few years later when I was 11 years old,” she wrote on her family’s blog. “Eventually, I also took up harp lessons when a friend offered to teach my sisters and I.”
Like many kids, Jill says that she didn’t always enjoy sitting down to practice. But as an adult, she appreciates that her parents urged her to put in the time.
“Even though practice wasn’t always my favorite thing to do as a kid, I’m so glad my parents encouraged me to stick with it, because now I can just play for relaxation and enjoyment,” she wrote.
She’s not the only musical Duggar
Several of Jill’s siblings have kept up with their music as adults, including Jinger Duggar, who plays the piano. In a 2018 episode of Counting On, she even received a gift of her own piano from her husband Jeremy. And she and her husband are keeping the family’s musical traditions alive by making sure their daughter Felicity got started with music lessons at an early age.
“I’m grateful my parents encouraged me, and they had all of us kids play music, and looking back, all of us now are grateful that we played music,” Jinger said in an episode of Counting On.
Jill and Jinger’s older sister Jana has also kept up with her music. She plays the piano, and in an Instagram post from earlier this year noted that the Duggar family has four pianos in their home, including two baby grands in the living room.
She then shared a quote from the English poet Walter Savage Landor: “Music is God’s gift to man, the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven.”
