Jill Duggar Has ‘Healthy Boundaries’ With Parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar
Jill Duggar Dillard is working on her relationship with her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
The former Counting On star shed some light on her evolving dynamic with her mom and dad in a recent Instagram post, hinting that things were somewhat less tense than they were previously.
Jill Duggar has ‘complicated’ relationship with her parents
Jill, 33, opened up about growing up on reality TV in her 2023 memoir, Counting the Cost. In that book, she also discussed the falling out she and her husband, Derrick Dillard, had with her father over compensation for her time on Counting On.
In January 2024, Jill and Derrick revealed that going public with her grievances had not helped mend the rift between her and her parents. During an appearance on The Unplanned Podcast, the couple said she had not seen both of her parents together in more than a year.
“We’re still on the road to figuring things out,” the mom of three said.
Since then, Jill and her parents have apparently taken some steps toward mending fences. In a Nov. 2 post on her Instagram Story (via Us Weekly), she described her relationship with Jim Bob and Michelle as “complicated.”
“I feel like we are in a rebuilding phase now with healthy boundaries still in place,” Jill, who is the fourth of Jim Bob and Michelle’s 19 children, said. “We try to hang out whenever it works well and we have the bandwidth to navigate things.”
The ‘Counting On’ family reunited for a sad event earlier this year
While some Duggar family relationships have been strained in recent years, the Counting On stars are at times able to overlook their differences. In April, Jill and her parents reunited at a memorial service for her and Derrick’s daughter Isla Marie, who was stillborn at four months.
The Duggars have also come together to mark happier occasions. In August, Jill and Derrick were guests at her older sister Jana Duggar’s wedding to Stephen Wissmann. They also attended her younger brother Jason Duggar’s Oct. 3 wedding to Maddie Grace.
Both Jim Bob and Michelle have stayed relatively quiet about the family conflict. But they did make a statement after Jill’s book (which she co-authored with Derrick and ghostwriter Craig Borlase) was published.
“We love all of our children very much. As with any family, few things are more painful than conflicts or problems among those you love. We’ve aimed to deal honorably with our children, our finances, and our other endeavors. While imperfect, it is our intent and desire to live a life that honors Christ,” the couple told People.
“We do not believe the best way to resolve conflicts, facilitate forgiveness and reconciliation, or to communicate through difficulties is through the media or in a public forum so we will not comment,” they added. “As the future unfolds, we will continue to love our family, pray for them, and enjoy every moment gifted to us to be parents and grandparents.”
