Fans who follow the Duggar family know TLC decided to cancel their show, Counting On, in the wake of Josh Duggar’s arrest. Federal agents arrested Josh in April 2021, and the Duggars haven’t mentioned much regarding the arrest since then. More recently, Jill Duggar posted a video to Instagram showing off how she’s celebrating the turn of the season — and she added Counting On as a hashtag to the post despite her quitting the show prior to its cancellation. Here’s what critics noticed.

Why was ‘Counting On’ canceled? Josh Duggar’s arrest led to the Duggar family show’s cancellation

The Duggar family’s Counting On went through a variety of ups and downs through the years. Counting On started in 2015 following TLC’s cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting. The network initially decided to cancel 19 Kids after reports suggested Josh Duggar molested a number of young girls years prior — a few of whom are his sisters. Then, the family returned with Counting On without Josh. However, Josh Duggar’s wife, Anna Duggar, still occasionally made appearances on the show.

So, why was Counting On canceled? Josh was arrested in April 2021 on suspicion of obtaining child sexual abuse material. In the wake of the arrest, TLC announced the show would not continue creating new episodes.

“TLC will not be producing additional seasons of Counting On,” the network told Us Weekly. “TLC feels it is important to give the Duggar family the opportunity to address their situation privately.”

While the Duggar family might be losing a lot of income due to TLC canceling Counting On, Jill Duggar doesn’t have much to lose. Jill left the show prior to its cancellation, as she noted she didn’t feel like the show allowed her the freedom she wanted in her life. Oddly enough, she still used the show’s hashtag in a recent Instagram post — and Duggar family critics noticed.

Jill posted a video to her Instagram showing her shopping for autumn items. “When fall explodes!” she captioned the video. “What’s your favorite season to decorate for?” She then added the hashtag, “#countingon.”

Some Duggar family critics on Reddit think Jill still uses the Counting On brand to gain followers and earn income. While she left the show years ago and has seemingly distanced herself from TLC, the brand can certainly help her get sponsorships and partnerships online.

“Jill has used that hashtag for a long time,” a Reddit user noted. “She knows her parents’ brand gets her attention so she takes advantage of that.”

So, does Jill Duggar keep up with any of the Duggar family members anymore? It looks like Jill still has a great relationship with her mom, Michelle Duggar. But Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, made a number of scathing claims about Jim Bob Duggar that suggest Jim Bob and Jill aren’t close.

According to Derick, Jim Bob kept the money from Counting On and didn’t give his kids their allotted share. Additionally, Derick noted he and Jill needed permission from Jim Bob specifically before visiting the Duggar family home for holidays and family events. This likely led to a rift between Jill and her parents.

Jill also mentioned in the past that many of her siblings didn’t quite understand her decision to leave the show. But any drama about this seems to have passed now.
