Jill Duggar of ‘Counting On’ Asks for Advice on Dealing With Her Son’s Allergies, Gets Called Out for Not Cleaning Enough

Jill Duggar recently learned that her 2-year-old son Sam has dust allergies. That’s forced her to double-down on her efforts to keep her home free of allergens. But some people on social media still think she’s not doing enough.

Jill Duggar is dealing with a sneezy kid. The former Counting On star recently learned that her 2-year-old son Sam has dust allergies. That’s forced her to double-down on her efforts to keep her home free of allergens.

But some people on social media still think she’s not doing enough. After asking for tips on how to help her son deal with his allergies, they called her out for not cleaning her home as often as they think she should.

Jill Duggar freezes her son’s toys to combat his dust allergies

In a April 29 Instagram post, Jill revealed that her younger son Sam has “strong allergies to dust.”

The kids’ doctor explained to Jill that their stuffed toys could be adding to dust in the home and making Sam’s allergies worse. The solution? Put the plush items in the freezer to kill the dust mites.

“Both of the boys love their stuffies…so when the allergist mentioned they could be contributing to collection of dust it made total sense!” she shared. “The allergist recommended freezing anything that’s tough to wash at least once a month for 48-72 hrs. to hopefully kill the dust mites! I usually bag them up to keep moisture off of them and contain them a little.”

Some people think Jill could do a better job of keeping her house clean

In her post, Jill also asked for advice on how to help deal with a child’s allergies. But some people took that as an opportunity to criticize Jill’s housekeeping.

The mom of two admitted that she’s trying to be “better at washing bedding and vacuuming at least once a week (I know…we still have carpet).”

Several people thought Jill wasn’t doing enough to keep her home dust-free.

“Vacuum once a week? I vacuum everyday, carpets and hardwoods..I would especially do this if my kid had a dust allergy,” one commented.

“My family has bad allergies and my son had the worst allergies in our home and we vacuum almost everyday 1x/week is definitely not enough,” another agreed.

But a few people also had some specific advice that might help Jill and her family. They suggested removing her home’s carpeting, getting a Roomba to make vacuuming easier, investing in pillow and mattress covers, and using HEPA filters.

Jill’s been criticized for her housekeeping before

This isn’t the first time that Jill has been criticized for what some people think are lax housekeeping standards. When she shared a photo of her dirty kitchen floor, she got some blowback.

“I will never understand why young moms are showing off & proud of a filthy house,” one person commented on the now-deleted June 2019 post.

Jill’s sister Jessa has also been slammed for showing off her messy home on social media. Some people think all the Duggars are kind of messy.

In a YouTube video, Jessa explained that her mom Michelle Duggar didn’t expect to have a pristine-looking home when there are a bunch of small kids around.

“One thing that I learned from my mom is if you’re striving for perfection before you even have people into your home, you just may end up never having people over because it’s hard to get your house spotless and especially keep it that way with young kids,” she said.
