Jill Duggar Told a Follower That Birth Control Caused Mom Michelle Duggar to Have a Miscarriage
Jill Duggar is dropping major bombs left and right via YouTube with her husband, Derick Dillard. Those who follow the Duggars know Jill is on the outs with her famous family, which is prompting many fans to ask questions. And the topic of birth control recently came up in a Q&A.
While Jill’s much more progressive than many of her family members, it seems she also thinks birth control was responsible for her mom’s miscarriage. Here’s what she said.
Michelle Duggar claimed birth control was the reason for an early miscarriage
Jim Bob and Michelle are staunchly anti-birth control, as they believed God would give them as many children as they should have. They didn’t always have this belief, though. At the beginning of their marriage, Michelle was on oral contraception, and she only planned on having a few children. But everything changed after her first miscarriage that occurred after the birth of her first child, Josh.
“I went back on the pill, and I ended up getting pregnant while on the pill,” Michelle explained to cameras. “We ended up losing that baby, and that was very difficult for us, because, here we are as parents, holding this one baby in our arms, enjoying being a mama and a daddy. And then realizing that, with our own lack of knowledge, just allowing one of our own babies to be destroyed.”
Jim Bob then explained that he and Michelle asked a doctor about what happened, and the doctor said the pill can cause miscarriages. And Michelle continued by stating she begged for forgiveness from God and was blessed with twins once she ditched the pill completely.
Jill Duggar told a follower she believes birth control caused her mother to lose a child
Jill doesn’t appear to be on good terms with most of her family, and she seemed to confirm this during a YouTube Q&A. While Derick was the first one to post to social media about Jill’s strained relationship with her family, Jill admitted that many of her siblings aren’t happy with the changes she’s making in her life. Regardless, she’s happy she’s following her own path.
While Jill stands out from the rest of the Duggars, it seems she still believes birth control really did cause her mother to lose a child. A screenshot from Reddit shows a follower commented via Instagram, “Why would you think hormonal birth control causes abortions? Educate yourself girl. plannedparenthood.org.”
To that, Jill responded, “Because it can & did for my home and many others,” along with a heart emoji.
It seems there’s not actually any proven correlation between the birth control pill and pregnancy complications, though. Healthline explains it’s largely a myth.
Jill still admitted to using birth control
Despite what Jill believes happened to Michelle, she’s still in favor of using birth control for herself at this time — and she might be one of the only Duggars with this stance.
Back in 2019, Derick corrected an Instagram follower who said he and Jill don’t utilize the pill. “We never said we don’t believe in birth control,” he stated. “My parents waited 11 years to start having kids, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Each Christian family should follow God’s leading for their own family, regarding when and how many kids to have.”
Jill and Derick reiterated this again on their recent Q&A. “Yes. We use birth control, but we prefer to use non-hormonal birth control methods,” she explained. And she once again insinuated birth control can cause miscarriages. “Because we don’t want to use anything that could cause an abortion.”
Despite everything, we’re still glad Jill’s answering fan questions and getting super honest so we can learn even more about herself and her family!
