Jill Duggar Was Called Out by a Fan for Saying She ‘Interrogated’ Her Husband, Derick Dillard, During Their Courtship

The Duggars have seriously strict courtship rules, and we’ll never forget when Jill Duggar met Derick Dillard. The two were initially set up by Jim Bob Duggar — and the rest is history.

Now, Jill’s reminding fans with an Instagram post of the first time she video chatted with Derick — but one follower called Jill out for her “#interrogation” hashtag. Here’s how Jill responded.

Jim Bob has become quite a controversial figure, especially when it comes to Jill and Derick. Since the couple’s stepped away from Counting On, they’ve also talked about their estrangement from Jim Bob. But we can’t forget that Jim Bob was the one responsible for introducing the couple in the first place.

As for how it all began, Derick was doing humanitarian work in Nepal back in 2012 when he contacted Jim Bob to tell him about the work he was doing. “He sounded like an amazing young man,” Jim Bob told People — and he knew Derick would be perfectly suited for Jill. “I felt like from the beginning, they had similar personalities and goals. I thought they would hit it off.”

By the beginning of 2013, Derick and Jill were getting to know each other quite well from a distance. And they finally were able to meet when Jill took a trip to Nepal with Jim Bob. “I traveled over 36 hours to meet him and we had a film crew filming and jet lag so it is a different dynamic than most people have,” Jill told People. “But it was really special.”

On Nov. 8, 2020, Jill posted a throwback of Derick to her Instagram. The photo is grainy and appears to be a screenshot from her computer. She then explained exactly what the photo shows — and it’s Derick from their first video chat in 2013.

“I snuck this iPhone pic during our very first Skype call … only three days after we first started texting,” Jill captioned the post. “It was another three long months before we met in person for the first time, then another two after that before we saw each other again. I’m so glad I was thinking ahead and captured this moment ‘just in case things worked out.'”

Jill then added a number of hashtags, like “#lovehimtothemoonandback” and “5hourskypecall.” But she also added the hashtag, “interrogation,” which got some attention.

“Lol. The interrogation hashtag,” one fan commented.

To that, Jill responded, “haha I totally interrogated him.”

Will Jill and Derick have strict dating rules for their kids?

After Jill posted this throwback, fans are wondering if she and Derick will also force their children into going through courtships. “Do you ever regret not being allowed to date in a more mainstream way?” one fan asked. Unfortunately, Jill didn’t seem to answer.

Chances are good that Jill and Derick will allow their sons, Israel and Samuel, to take a more modern approach to dating, though. The couple’s already decided to put their kids through public school. And they’ve noted that while their steps toward a more modern lifestyle don’t necessarily appease the other Duggars, they’re happy with how they’re choosing to move forward with their family.

“You shouldn’t have had to hide anything,” another fan commented. “You and Derick were adults. You did not need a Chaperone at all. All of that was ridiculous.” To this, Jill didn’t respond.

We’ll have to wait and see how Jill and Derick treat dating in their own family. For now, we’re loving Jill’s throwbacks and social media content.
