Jill Duggar’s Followers Think She’s Officially Breaking Free From Jim Bob and Michelle
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the Duggar family for years, and Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were the ones to start it all. The couple infamously has 19 children, and many of their older kids are featured on Counting On and have social media accounts of their own. And it’s Jill Duggar who’s garnering a ton of attention recently. While she’s no longer on any TLC TV shows, Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, made scathing claims against the Duggars and TLC on his Instagram.
While Derick is known for his rebellious behavior, Jill always appeared to quietly obey. But now, many think she’s making major changes and is finally breaking free from her strict upbringing.
Jill Duggar’s made some serious changes for herself recently
The Duggar women grew up with strict household rules, especially around the way they acted and dressed. They weren’t allowed to wear pants (long skirts only), and prior to marriage, they couldn’t hold hands or kiss the men they were courting. And they were also expected to maintain their long hair, help care for their younger siblings, and obey the Bible.
Many thought Jessa or Jinger, who appeared to have more of a rebellious streak, would be the true wild children of the Duggar family. But it seems Jill is the one making the most radical changes. Once she married, she started wearing modern clothing — and she even got her nose pierced. Then, in December 2019, Jill chopped her long locks.
Jill’s distant relationship from her parents is really what’s setting her apart from her siblings, though. Her husband told his Instagram followers at the end of 2019 that he and Jill rarely see the other Duggars, as they need permission from Jim Bob before stopping by the huge family home.
She enrolled one of her kids into the public school system
Jill just made another huge step that separates her from her parents and siblings. While the Duggars typically believe in homeschooling, Jill decided to enroll her 4-year-old son, Israel, into public school.
“Look who’s registered for kindergarten!” Jill captioned her post of Israel on Instagram. “How did you feel when your first went off to kindergarten? Any tips? Drop them in the comments below.”
Derick also posted a photo to Instagram showing off Israel’s first day of kindergarten. And he also answered a follower who asked, “Why did I think you homeschooled?”
Dillard commented back, “we’ve homeschooled for almost 5 years, but now he’s old enough for school.”
Many think she’s the Duggar child who’s officially breaking free
From all we’ve learned about Jill’s strained relationship with her family to her decision to put her kids in school, it looks like Jill is actually the rebel in the family. And many are praising her for stepping out and paving her own path.
One Reddit user stated, “if you told me five years ago that jill would be the duggar to put their child in real school and wear pants i never would’ve believed you.”
“I was just rewatching Counting On Season 4 and feeling so amazed at how drastically different she is now,” another wrote. “She’s come a long way and I’m proud of her for that. It really gives me hope for the rest of them!”
“I am continuously stunned that Jill, of all people, is the daughter that has ‘broken away’ in any meaningful sense,” another added. “Jeans, nose ring, and now a kid in actual school!”
We’ll have to wait and see if any of Jill’s siblings will follow her lead. For now, Jill’s marching to the beat of her own drum and sharing the journey with her Instagram followers.
