Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Just Said They Make Their Kids Handwrite Bible Passages for School
Those who follow the Duggars know they’re all about homeschooling the family. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar grew up teaching their kids everything in the confines of their home, and once some of the children got older, they were then the ones responsible for homeschooling the youngest.
Now, the Duggar Family Instagram and Facebook, seemingly run by Jim Bob and Michelle, just posted about a handwriting exercise for the children. And it involves copying Bible passages by hand.
The Duggars believe in homeschooling their kids
Jim Bob and Michelle are independent Baptists, and they homeschooled all 19 kids so they could really focus on their religious studies. Michelle told TLC she hoped to do a curriculum that was Christian-based, “one in which there’s a lot of character emphasis, character-building like responsibility, honesty, self-control.”
The Duggars also participated in a homeschooling conference back in 2011. And Jim Bob told Texas news station KLTV why he chose this practice. “Bible says to train up your children when you get up in the morning when you sit down, walk by the way, and when you go to bed at night,” he said. “And we really felt like in order to do to fulfill that command, we really wanted to homeschool our children.”
Some Duggar family members aren’t homeschooling their kids, though. We know Jill Duggar is sending her kids to public school, though she’s also on the outs with her famous family.
The Duggar’s social media posted about the kids hand-copying Bible passages
The Duggars are so invested in the Bible that even handwriting practice centers around the notable book. On Sept. 30, the family posted a photo of the Bible with a pad of paper and a pencil next to it. And they explained their young kids are copying Bible passages to assist with their handwriting.
“Feeling like we are finally back into the swing of things with our fall school schedule!” the Duggar Family Instagram and Facebook captioned the post. “For handwriting practice, we have our children do ‘Bible Copy,’ which is writing out passages of Scripture! I pray that God’s Word will sink deeply into their little hearts and will stay with them all the days of their lives!”
It looks like several fans love this idea, but others aren’t so sure.
“I used to dread Bible copy as a kid, but I’m so grateful for how it helped me memorize the books of the Bible …,” one fan commented via Instagram.
“Cursive not printed would be much better,” another criticized. “You don’t learn cursive in the U.S.?”
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar once wrote about how kids ‘need more Jesus’
While some Duggar followers may love the practice (and others may disapprove), there’s no doubt it’s here to stay. Jim Bob and Michelle will continue to incorporate the Bible in every possible teaching for their kids. Back in 2015, the couple posted to Facebook about how the Bible is the “absolute best guide to life.”
“We live in a time when children need more Jesus and more of the Bible,” the Facebook post starts. “Thankfully there are great resources like the film, Jesus Is the Good News, from VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer that kids really enjoy.” The post then goes into how to attain a subscription for free Biblical DVDs for kids. “Whether you choose to place an order or not, please remember to teach your kids that Jesus is the Good News!” the post finishes.
Unfortunately, it seems this 2015 post got tons of backlash, as it was the same year Josh Duggar’s scandals came to light. But it seems the Duggar family really hasn’t changed too much, as they still believe in using the Bible as their guiding light in their daily life and teachings.
