The Duggar Family Just Gave Derick Dillard an Unexpected Shoutout
Fans who’ve kept up with Duggar news know all about Derick Dillard’s feud with the Duggar family. Jill Duggar’s husband negatively called out Jim Bob Duggar via Instagram at the end of 2019 — and fans and critics alike have kept up with the feuding ever since. More recently, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar gave Derick a shoutout via Instagram. Here’s what happened.
What did Derick Dillard say about Jim Bob Duggar?
Jill and Derick’s departure from Counting On and the rest of Jill’s family is old Duggar news at this point. But a lot happened between 2019 and 2021. At the end of 2019, a fan asked Derick why he and Jill aren’t with the rest of the Duggar family for the holidays. And Derick explained Jill needs permission from Jim Bob before entering the family home.
This was just the beginning of Derick spilling the tea to the public regarding Jill’s standing with her family. Since then, Derick also noted Jim Bob lied and said the family was doing Counting On as volunteer work, and no money was exchanged. Not only that, but he also claimed Jim Bob cut Jill off from her younger siblings who still live at home.
As for Jill, she started to speak about her standing with her family after Derick. “I never expected this to happen or for it to get to this point,” Jill told People. “But I’m realizing I can’t put a timeline on healing. I love my family and they love me. I really just have to follow God’s lead and take it one day at a time.”
The Duggar family Instagram gave Derick a shoutout for his birthday
Despite the tension in the Duggar family, Jim Bob and Michelle still gave Derick a shoutout via the Duggar Family Instagram. On March 9, they posted a photo to Derick on their Instagram Stories for his birthday. They then added their birthday well wishes as well as, “We love you!!”
The Duggar Family Instagram is no stranger to sharing celebratory birthday posts, but they don’t always give in-laws a shoutout. There are times when they don’t create posts for each of their kids as well. Critics on Reddit think this post was Jim Bob and Michelle’s attempt at damage control after everything Derick’s said about them.
“That is very surprising,” a Reddit user noted in response to the Instagram Stories post. “I wonder what he thinks about that.”
“That confirms my theory that Jana makes these posts!” another critic wrote. “She didn’t want to be self-absorbed and make her own birthday post but she still speaks to Jill and posts about them as family.”
Why did Jill Duggar leave ‘Counting On’?
While Jill leaving Counting On behind isn’t the latest in Duggar news, it’s still important to keep in mind.
“We left the show three years ago now because, basically, our family goals that we had for ourselves didn’t align with what we found out … we ended up finding out that we didn’t have as much control over our lives as it related to the show,” Jill said during a Q&A video on YouTube. “We had to make a decision at that time to put the show aside to pursue our own goals.”
Will Jill and Derick leave reality TV behind forever? While it doesn’t look like they want to join the rest of the Duggar family on Counting On anytime soon, they seem to be open to the possibility of rejoining in the future. “We would only consider doing filming if we had a say in the terms of our arrangement,” Derick explained during an interview with The Sun.
