We’ve watched many of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s kids go through their courtships, as many have successfully resulted in marriages. And a major success story is Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo. Jeremy and Jinger seemed like the perfect fit, and today, they’re married with a daughter, another baby on the way, and a life in California.

Back when Jinger was courting, she explained to Counting On cameras that she was able to get away with doing less household duties than her siblings. Here’s why.

Jim Bob and Michelle had 19 children together, some of whom are still young and living with them in their huge Arkansas family home. With so many kids, there were plenty of chores to be done. And Michelle also had all of her children help each other with homeschooling, cleaning, cooking, and getting ready for each day.

Michelle’s been quite open with her parenting methods, though many think so many rules were a bigger burden for the kids than a blessing. Michelle even once explained on 19 Kids and Counting that the older kids were expected to help school their younger siblings.

As for Jim Bob, it seems he had small financial incentives put in place for his kids to complete tasks. Jim Bob would give the kids 3 cents for every chore they completed.

Jinger Duggar said she didn’t have to do as much when she was courting Jeremy Vuolo

Courtships are a huge deal in the Duggar family. The Duggars don’t believe in typical dating, as they don’t think it leads to long-lasting relationships with strong foundations. Thus, they choose to “court,” which has a greater endgame of marriage.

Jinger appeared extremely happy and excited when first courting Jeremy. Back in 2016, Counting On captured her joy when filming her preparing to take a trip to Laredo, Texas, to visit Jeremy.

“I am just so excited I don’t know what to do with myself,” Jinger told the camera while packing for her trip.

Jeremiah and Jedidiah also chimed in when their sister was courting. “She’s here but she’s not all the way here,” Jeremiah said. “It’s just been a few weeks into the courtship, but she’s pretty out there.”

Jinger then explained why her head was up in the clouds. “In our house, I think it’s kind of known fact that when somebody’s in a relationship, it’s hard for them to stay focused,” she said. “My mom has said, if anybody’s in a relationship, just give them one job to do in a day, and call it good. For me, it’s just been keeping up with laundry.”

About half of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids are out of the house, and many of them have courted and wed. Now, it’s Justin Duggar’s turn to slack on chores. The 17-year-old recently revealed he’s dating 19-year-old Claire Spivey while talking to the Duggars over video chat.

“God brought Claire into my life and I wasn’t really expecting it, but he brought her along right when I needed her” Justin explained. “And ever since then, I knew she was the one.”

The Duggar Family Instagram announced the courtship officially on Sept. 21. “We are excited for them as they follow the Lord and find out what He has in store for their lives during this courtship!” the Duggars captioned their post. “We have loved getting to know Claire and her family better over the last year, and we think the world of them!”

We’re interested to hear more about the courtship as it picks up steam. Unfortunately, the rest of the Duggars living at home with mom and dad might have to pick up Justin’s slack for awhile.
