Joanna Gaines Once Described the 1 Most ‘Special’ Piece of Decor Inside Her Waco Home
Chip and Joanna Gaines have made a name for themselves through their modern farmhouse style, which was popularized on the HGTV show Fixer Upper. Despite making millions, the couple has not moved out of their Waco, Texas, farmhouse, which Joanna spent several years decorating to perfection. And she has one “special” item in the house that she will never part with.
Chip and Joanna Gaines have lived in Waco, Texas since they were married
Joanna and Chip first met when Chip came strolling into her father’s auto body store when the two were in their early 20s. Chip later asked Joanna out, and she agreed, though the couple’s first date didn’t go too smoothly. Still, Joanna gave him another chance, and soon enough, it was clear these two were meant to be.
The couple settled down in Waco, Texas, which became the home base not only for their family but also for their business. Joanna opened her first-ever Magnolia Market, a small home décor store, which she has since reopened in a much larger capacity. Plus, the entirety of their Fixer Upper show is filmed in the city as well.
Joanna Gaines recalled one ‘special’ piece of décor in the family’s home
Chip and Joanna stopped filming HGTV’s Fixer Upper back in 2018, but they have since rebooted the series on discovery+. The two are launching Magnolia Network this summer, and the show is a part of their preview.
Chip and Joanna initially decided to take time off from HGTV to focus on their marriage and their family. Later in 2018, she took TODAY host Jenna Bush Hager into her Waco home for a quick tour. Joanna and Hager Bush spent plenty of time in the Gaines’ living room, where Joanna talked about one special décor piece — plus another of her favorite pieces.
“This is something that Chip and I found years ago,” Joanna said, pointing to an antique-style street sign hanging on the wall. “It’s from New York.” Joanna also nods when Hager mentions that the piece is from Joanna and Chip’s honeymoon. “That means something to me, and I think that’s special,” Joanna said.
Joanna also pointed to a large clock on the wall, which she referred to as one of her “favorite pieces in the house.” She added that it helps her to remember how much of a “gift” time is.
Joanna Gaines has continued to give design tips outside of filming
Despite that Joanna took some time away from filming, she continued to provide some design tips to her followers. In the same tour with Bush Hager, Joanna revealed some essential tips for creating the perfect home exterior — and it all comes down to the décor.
“I think little things, like potted plants, sconces, [a] front door mat — little things that just, when you walk in, just feel intentional,” Joanna said.
These days, Joanna’s style seems to be slightly changing. She’s somewhat stepping away from her well-known “modern farmhouse” style and exploring new designs.
