Chip turns 50 in November 2024, and Joanna is allegedly “planning a special celebration” for his big day. Here’s what an insider alleged.

Chip and Joanna Gaines started on HGTV’s Fixer Upper in 2013. Now, the couple has an incredibly, multimillion-dollar empire over 10 years later. Chip and Joanna remain dedicated to their craft, as they continue to satisfy fans with their network, goods, and shops. And they continue to reevaluate their goals as they age.
Chip and Joanna guest-starred on The Drew Barrymore Show in late 2024 before Chip’s 50th birthday on Nov. 14, 2024. Drew Barrymore expressed how she felt excited to turn 50. Unfortunately, Chip said he felt “the opposite.”
“When you’ve got this Peter Pan syndrome, and you’ve always evaluated yourself through a childlike lens, then it’s just like, how does that coexist with a 50-year-old reality?” Chip reflected. “I don’t know. I feel sort of conflicted.”
A source told Closer Weekly that Chip is “usually not one to care so much about these kinds of things, but turning 50 has really given Chip pause.” However, he also feels “so grateful” for all of the fortunate circumstances life has offered him.
While Chip might not be excited to turn 50, Joanna will do everything in her power to fill the day with joy. “Joanna is planning a special celebration for him with the whole family,” the source continued. “Chip may complain about little aches and pains, but he knows how incredibly blessed he is. His life turned out better than he could have ever imagined.”
The couple is prioritizing ‘work and family’ balance more than ever as they age
With Chip Gaines turning 50 and Joanna Gaines at 46 years old in 2024, the couple is experiencing a shift in priorities. The workaholics are taking time to slow down and focus on new hobbies and family time. Chip and Joanna also prioritize a weekly date night.
“Joanna says spending alone time with Chip reminds her of what made her fall in love with him in the first place,” a source told Closer Weekly in April 2024. “She’s ready for another 20 years.”
The insider added that Joanna is “making more of an effort than ever to balance work and family,” especially after the couple’s oldest son, Drake, 19, headed to college in 2022.
Joanna Gaines says she’s more like Chip Gaines as she ages
Chip and Joanna Gaines celebrated 21 years of marriage in 2024. In 2023, the couple reflected on two decades under contract with People.
“I would say, as we’re getting older, I’m shifting and I’m more like Chip, and Chip is more like me,” Joanna explained.
Chip noted that he and Joanna “evolved” into the “second part” of their marriage. “Jo and I are in this beautiful moment,” he commented.
Chip and Joanna approach life very differently. While Joanna has expressed how she’s feared change in the past, Chip embraces the unknown and dives head-first into challenges. “I think that’s the beauty of relationships in general,” Joanna continued. “If Chip weren’t my partner, I would probably still be in the corner. From the moment I met him, he’s always experienced change in a positive way. Even if it was negative, it was, ‘All right. What do we do next?’”
Chip added that he feels like he and Joanna’s marriage is “just getting started” after 20 years. “I hope that we get to look back in 20 years from now and feel just as confident that we were meant to be,” he said.
