Joe Rogan Scandals Mount, Comic Previously Called African Town ‘Planet of the Apes’
Joe Rogan is gonna have to start facing down all of the mistakes he’s made in the past. The podcast host and comedian is facing increased fan scrutiny after a disgusting 2011 clip from The Joe Rogan Experience starring Joey Diaz resurfaced. In the clip, Diaz discusses coercing women into sexual acts for stage time. Now, with many on social media disgusted by Diaz’s comments and Rogan’s laughter, more challenging clips are beginning to resurface. One of the latest features Rogan referring African as “Planet of the Apes.”
The Joey Diaz Scandal
One complaint Joe Rogan often faces is a lack of accountability or responsibility for the statements and beliefs his guests put forth on his podcast. This was made very apparent during a 2011 clip from The Joe Rogan Experience featuring Joey Diaz.
During this clip, Diaz tells a lurid tale about coercing women comics into administering oral sex in order to earn stage time at The Belly Room. During the clip, Diaz says, “You think I’m f*cking kidding you? F*ck yeah, you gotta suck my d*ck to get up in The Belly Room. I’m makin’ a call for you. That’s the f*cking gateway for coming into Hollywood, everybody knows that.”
He adds, “I had this little blonde open mic chick … and just take me up to The Belly Room and suck my d*ck and then go do her set, she was tremendous. She finally freaked out. When she got to Hollywood bro, she was beautiful. But when she left, she had dirty f*ckin’, her nails were dirty. And then she wrote me a letter to The Comedy Store. ‘You c*cksucker you broke me.’”
Joe Rogan is seen laughing along to the story, even when Diaz mentions the letter he received. Since the clip has resurfaced, Rogan hasn’t made any sort of apology. In fact, he and Diaz doubled down, with Rogan retweeting a message from Diaz that reads, “If that video hurt your feelings watch this c*cksniffers…….Joey Diaz Sleeps With One Legged Woman – YMH Highlight [sic].”
Joe Rogan calls Africa ‘Planet of the Apes’
Now, with Joey Diaz’s clip catching the attention of critics across social media, Rogan is facing the music from other clips that are garnering additional attention. Notably, a clip of Rogan calling Africa “Planet of the Apes” is garnering attention once again.
In this clip, which appears to be from around the same general era as the Diaz clip, Rogan talks about visiting a neighborhood in an African town. He relates, “And [he] says okay, take me to this one. And the guy goes, is that in a good neighborhood? They say oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, this guy barely speaks English. He takes us there, we get out, and we’re giggling. ‘Oooh, we’re gonna go see Planet of the Apes!’ We walked into Planet of the Apes. We walked into Africa. We walked in the door and there [were] no white people.”
Reactions to the Joey Diaz clip
Many have been calling for Joe Rogan and Joey Diaz to own up to heir comments and behavior as featured in the 2011 clip of Joey Diaz.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti took to Twitter to discuss the problem of sexual harassment and sexism in comedy. She wrote, “If you’re a male comedian one thing you can do is tell men to shut the f*ck up when they are saying hateful sh*t about women. & not go on podcasts that are racist & sexist you can also speak up for women getting attacked online for sticking up for themselves. Or….total silence.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “I’ve watched this clip 30 times & honestly I’m glad that @madflavor admits to forcing comics to give him blow jobs at @TheComedyStore (The Belly Room) in order to get stage time. He is so excited & happy to share that he ‘broke this woman’ & 20 others. So let’s RT & tell everyone.”
Author Catherynne Valente tweeted, “And Joe Rogan laughs his ass off when the guy says he’s done it to at least 20 women. Rogan doesn’t have one word to say against this. It’s hilarious to him. Ha ha you raped so many ladies! And you want to tell me this man should be part of our political discourse.”
