John Cena Doesn’t Want Kids Right Now
Wrestler turned actor John Cena is a celebrity loved by adults and fans. The star has traded in the squared circle for a career as Hollywood’s next leading man. As his success increases, he has the support of his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh. As for whether Cena plans to add dad to his list of roles, the actor has an answer.
John Cena isn’t in a rush to have kids
With a two-decade career in wrestling and actor, Cena’s a busy man. Although his wrestling days appear to be behind him, he’s still in high demand by Hollywood. Currently, he’s starring in the HBO Max series Peacemaker and has six movies in the works.
Cena’s hectic schedule is one of the reasons he’s not in a rush to have kids. He discussed having children in a January 2022 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “I think just because you might be good at something, for me, is not a strong enough reason to do that. You have to have a passion for it. You have to have a fuel for it. It’s like saying to someone, ‘Man, you know you are a pretty good with your hands. You would be a great carpenter,’” he explained.
Children were a big issue for him and Nikki Bella
Fans know Cena’s been vocal about his hesitancy of having children. Kids were a huge issue for him and his ex-fiancée Nikki Bella. The couple often argued over his decision not to marry or have children on Total Bellas.
However, Cena appeared to change his mind after a while, at least on the marriage topic. At WrestleMania 33, Cena proposed to Bella after their tag match. Yet, a year after their iconic proposal, Bella called off their engagement.
Bella later revealed that children were a reason for the split, even though Cena was willing to have a family with her. The reality star didn’t want to force Cena into something he didn’t want and make him later regret his decision. Bella became engaged to Dancing With the Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev in November 2019 and gave birth to their son Matteo in July 2020.
He was open to having kids with his wife Shay Shariatzadeh
While marriage wasn’t in the cards for him and Bella, Cena found love with Shariatzadeh. He met the Vancouver engineer in 2019 while filming Playing with Fire. The couple married in October 2020 in a low-key ceremony.
In a June 2021 interview with The Sun, the actor admitted he was open to starting a family with Shariatzadeh. “I’m a little bit older, a bit wiser. I’m realising there is life and life exists and it’s beautiful – and I think part of that is being a parent, so we’ll see,” he explained.
It looks like kids are in Cena and Shariatzadeh’s immediate future for the time being.
