Comedian John Mulaney and actor Olivia Munn are a 2021 couple not many fans saw coming. But considering news of Munn’s pregnancy, it looks like the two stars could be in each other’s lives for a while – even if just as co-parents to baby “Munnlaney.”
With the bundle of joy reportedly due this year, some spectators on social media are eagerly waiting for the news. The two haven’t publicly shared an exact due date, so their public could be waiting a while longer.
But in the meantime, those who are curious can take a look back at Mulaney and Munn’s whirlwind romance. How did they meet and what have they said about having their first baby together?
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn met at Seth Meyers wedding
In Sept. 2021, Mulaney confirmed the pregnancy in an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers. This was after the internet became convinced Munn was expecting a baby based on pictures of her. Notably, gossip sites had already suggested she was pregnant months before.
The comedian shared that he met Munn at Meyers wedding years before they ever dated, which she confirmed in a previous interview. But it seemingly wasn’t meant to be yet.
Supposedly, the two re-connected sometime in the spring of 2021, but Munn directed a now Twitter-famous tweet at him in Dec. 2020. She sent him “so much love and support” following an announcement he was going to a rehab facility.
Mulaney still appeared to be married then but he announced his divorce in May, shortly after he completed his stay in rehab. Days later, a report from a source claimed Mulaney was in a new relationship with Munn.

While Mulaney didn’t give all the credit for his recovery success to Munn and their soon-to-arrive baby, he told Meyers that Munn and the baby “helped save” him in early recovery.
Mulaney called himself a “reverse catch” for the actor, noting that they started dating as he was “right out of recovery.” He added that he felt very lucky to have re-met Munn when he did.
He called their relationship “beautiful” and called her “incredible” for being with him. “She kind of held my hand through that hell,” he shared of dating her at what he called a “challenging” time.
Notably, Munn hasn’t spoken much about their relationship. But she did talk to Mario Lopez for Access Online about a few of her experiences with first-time pregnancy.
Olivia Munn: “I haven’t decided if I’ll find out” the sex of the baby
During their interview, Munn told Lopez that she isn’t sure she’ll find out the sex of her baby before it arrives. “I haven’t decided if I’ll find out yet or not,” she said before noting, “It’s a good surprise to find out.”
Munn shared that she’d heard dogs had a sense about human pregnancy. But her two rescue dogs hardly seem to notice, according to her.
She told Lopez she was “feeling good” and receiving a lot of support from other moms. “Just the outpouring of love and support has been really amazing,” she shared.
While both parents seem happy, some fans were surprised when Mulaney announced the news because of comments he made about not wanting children.

Notably, Mulaney was open about not wanting kids, both in his stand-up and during interviews. However, he’s not the first person to not want children in theory until they learn that they have a child on the way. So, his change of heart is understandable.
On the other hand, Munn previously revealed to Anna Farris that she’d frozen ” a bunch” of her eggs in case she needed them later, as reported in The Hollywood Reporter. Presumably, it’s not how she became pregnant with Mulaney’s baby but notes she had more interest in eventually having kids.
While sightings of the pair together are rare compared to some other high-profile couples, their baby is due in the coming months. Fans hope to hear more from them about what life as new parents is like.
