Comedian John Mulaney is known for his unfiltered take on life, celebrities, and today’s hot topics. The former Saturday Night Live writer targeted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at a recent Netflix season launch event. However, this isn’t the first time Harry has been Mulaney’s comedy target.

What was John Mulaney’s Prince Harry joke about?

In a November 2020 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, comedian John Mulaney made some fierce remarks against Prince Harry. The unprovoked statements against the Duke of Sussex came as Mulaney discussed Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal family.

“You know it’s weird, right, that Meghan and Harry left?” he said. “You thought rolling with those dorks in church clothes would be fun? Had you been told it was non-stop laughs? Because you’re thinking of The Munsters, you silly goose.”

The comedian called Prince Harry, “The real dunce of this fairytale. You dumb ginger, don’t leave your title just because you don’t like your 94-year-old grandma.”

A source later claimed to Page Six that Mulaney was “out of his mind” on substances when the segment was taped. The comedian entered rehab in December 2020 and has been sober ever since.

John Mulaney aimed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle again in 2025

In 2025, John Mulaney touched on the topic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during a Netflix presentation launch in Los Angeles. The Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney host joined Ben Affleck, Tina Fey, and other stars to promote their new movies or streaming series.

Speaking of his new talk show, Mulaney revealed, “This is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan have Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.” Reportedly, there were several chuckles in the room in response to Mulaney’s joke.

“We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great. It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito, and nature. It really has great takeaways.”

The Netflix executive also discussed the couple’s adaptation of the romance novel Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune. This project was first announced in August 2023.

Bajaria explained that book adaptation is “in development. Everyone is excited about what is coming. I am really excited for her show.”

Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, debuts on March 4, just ahead of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney on March 12.
