Johnny Depp once had one of the most vibrant careers in Hollywood. However, his tumultuous divorce from Amber Heard, the accusations of abuse from the Aquaman actor, and poor financial choices have made him a liability.

Though Depp has effectively been blacklisted in Hollywood, a role in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 could revitalize his career. However, Burton might not be willing to take the risk.

Johnny Depp’s personal life and career is in turmoil

After more than 30 years in the entertainment industry, Depp’s career has come to a screeching halt. Amid his 2016 divorce from Heard, she alleged that he was abusive and provided photographic evidence. As a result, The Sun labeled the actor a “wife-beater.”

Though the What’s Eating Gibert Grape? actor sued for libel, he lost the case and was effectively booted from from the industry.

“I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,” Depp shared on Instagram. “The surreal judgment of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.”

Johnny Depp might be facing financial ruin

In addition to the demise of his reputation and being known for allegedly abusing women, Depp’s finances may not be in the best shape.

In 2018, Rolling Stone reported that Depp’s $650 million fortune that he’d made from his films was mostly gone. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor sued his managers at The Management Group for “negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and fraud.” According to Variety, Depp hadn’t paid his taxes in 17 years, which was a reported $100 million in IRS fees.

Though the actor eventually settled with The Management Group, years of spending lavishly and mishandling funds has left him with a net worth of $150 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, nowhere near his original fortune.

Clearly, things are not going well for Depp, especially following his violent actions toward his former wife. Hollywood studios may be reluctant to hire Depp, and he might have to seek work outside of the country to continue acting Though he’s been booted from the Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts franchise, the actor may look to an old friend in an attempt to revive his career.

Director Tim Burton, who has collaborated with Depp in films like Edward ScissorhandsEd Wood, and Sleepy Hollow, may be willing to risk his own reputation for his old friend.

Indie producer Orian Williams told SCMP, “If he manages to get one more good part, he could ostensibly come back. I would consider hiring him for the right role. You can question a lot, but you can’t ever question his talent.”

Since Beetlejuice 2 has been confirmed, we have to see if Burton is willing to take the gamble.
