Johnny Depp’s First Celebrity Crush Is Not Who We Were Expecting: ‘Oh God’
Johnny Depp has become one of Hollywood’s favorite actors. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star reportedly never even took an acting class before stepping into an audition room, and today he’s seen as one of a kind in the industry.
It turns out that, prior to becoming a celebrity himself, Depp had a celebrity crush of his own — and it’s not who we’d expect.
Johnny Depp has starred in various high-profile Hollywood films
Depp had always wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry, but not as an actor. Rather, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star wanted to be a musician. He joined a band from a young age with the hopes of making it big as a rock star. In 1983, Depp married Lori Anne Allison, who introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage. Cage and Depp became friends, and Cage was the one who convinced Depp to pivot from a music career to an acting career.
It didn’t take long before Depp landed roles; he created a persona for himself that was hard to replicate in Hollywood. He made his film debut in “A Nightmare On Elm Street” back in 1984, and from there, he went on to star in movies such as “Edward Scissorhands,” (1990) “Secret Window,” (2004) and “Into the Woods” (2014).
Depp once revealed his celebrity crush to Ellen DeGeneres
Depp has come a long way in Hollywood, and though he’s met and befriended plenty of celebrities, that’s not to say he didn’t have his own celebrity crush at one point. When Depp did an interview with Ellen DeGeneres back in 2017, he did reveal that he once had a crush on actress and entertainer Carol Channing.
Channing was a famous Broadway star from the mid 20th century, and not exactly someone many people today would consider their celebrity crush. “Oh God,” DeGeneres said. She then laughed at Depp’s response and accused him of not answering the question honestly, though he insisted his first crush was, indeed, Carol Channing. “You are no good at this game,” DeGeneres went on.
When asked which co-star of his was the best kisser, Depp answered “Pirates of the Caribbean” co-star Javier Bardem, and DeGeneres didn’t take that one seriously, either. But Depp stayed convincing, so it’s hard to tell if Carol Channing was truly his celebrity crush.
It turns out Johnny Depp was someone else’s celebrity crush, too
There’s plenty to love about Depp. He’s unlike any other Hollywood actor. And with that, there were certainly a number of women who were attracted to him. Depp and Winona Ryder, who filmed Edward Scissorhands together in 1990, quickly fell in love. Still, there’s another surprising celebrity who had a crush on Johnny Depp: Kim Kardashian West.
Kardashian West admitted the crush to her sister, Kylie Jenner, when the two were doing an ask-me-anything YouTube video in February 2020. Kardashian West didn’t have much to add as to why she was into Depp, but it was an unexpected answer from the reality star and beauty mogul.
