The New Jersey musician and his team were filming a music video on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge on Sept. 10 when they noticed a woman who had climbed over the bridge’s railing, The Tennessean reported. Bon Jovi and a production assistant spoke to the woman before helping her back over the railing to safety.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police thanked the singer for his actions in a message posted to X

“A shout out to @jonbonjovi & his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tue night,” the message read. “Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety.”

“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” Chief John Drake added.

The police department also shared a YouTube video of the incident. The video has since been removed from the video streaming platform.

Bon Jovi declined to comment on the incident out of respect for the woman, according to The Tennessean.

Bon Jovi’s thoughtful response to a person in crisis isn’t the first time he’s stepped up to do good. The Grammy winner has a long history of supporting charitable causes, most notably through his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which he founded in 2006.

Through his foundation, Bon Jovi has helped create hundreds of units of affordable housing in a dozen states, supported shelters and resource centers for the homeless, and funded the creation of apartments for domestic violence victims and veterans.

The foundation is also behind the JBJ Soul Kitchen, a non-profit community restaurant where people can pay for their meals either with a donation or through volunteering. The restaurant has four locations in New Jersey, including two on college campuses. And in 2020, the foundation created a food back in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bon Jovi doesn’t just financially support good causes. When the coronavirus pandemic forced his band to cancel their tour, he spent his days washing dishes at JBJ Soul Kitchen

“There’s an in-need population here in New Jersey who depend on us,” he told CNN. “Hence, the All-Star Hall of Fame dishwasher is back in business.”

Bon Jovi named the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year

Earlier this year, Bon Jovi’s philanthropic efforts earned him the 2024 MusiCares Person Of The Year award.

“Philanthropic work has been a cornerstone of my life and has always run in tandem to my music career and achievements. Nearly two decades ago when I formed the JBJ Soul Foundation and JBJ Soul Kitchens, I saw firsthand and continue to see today the impact of charitable, community-based work,” Bon Jovi said in a statement after the honor was announced. “I know this for sure: Helping one’s community is helping one’s self.”
