‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’: Why Did Jon Gosselin and Colleen Conrad Break Up?
Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin were the stars of TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8. Unfortunately, their romance went downhill — and they had an explosive divorce that shed new light on the couple. Over the last seven years, Jon spent time developing a romance with Colleen Conrad, but he noted in August 2021 the two broke up. So, why did the couple split?

Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin seemed like the perfect couple on Jon & Kate Plus 8. But by 2009, 10 years into their marriage, they decided to call it quits. According to Kate, she and Jon started to want different things in their relationship. And infidelity rumors swirled around Jon at the time. As for Jon’s side of the story, it seems he was tired of living in the public eye with Kate and the kids, and he needed a change.
It seemed like Jon was getting everything he wanted and needed with his girlfriend, Colleen Conrad. They reportedly began dating in 2015 and knew each other beforehand. “They ran into each other after years of not seeing each other and instantly reconnected,” a source told Us Weekly.
As for marriage, Jon never tied the knot with Colleen. But in 2017, he talked about the possibility. While he initially stated he didn’t think there was a “point” to marriage, he noted on a podcast earlier in their relationship, “So, I don’t know. I’ve been with Colleen for almost three years. She’s a huge part of my life.”
Why did Jon Gosselin and Colleen Conrad split?
Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin clearly weren’t right for each other. But Jon and Colleen Conrad seemed like the perfect fit. He posted a number of sweet photos through the years of Colleen with the two kids he has custody of, Hannah and Collin Gosselin. Sadly, in August 2021, Jon noted he and Colleen went their separate ways.
“It’s hard, it was a big decision,” Jon told The Sun. “We have been together for seven years which is a long time, so it’s very upsetting. It’s really hard to even talk about it. When you’re with someone that long, especially in the public eye and she’s someone private.”
So, why did they split? According to Jon, their relationship was on the rocks in the summer of 2020 during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Eventually, they decided to amicably split after troubling times. “We had some struggles and we tried to push through them as best we could, but it didn’t really work out the way we thought it would,” he added. “I still love and care for Colleen but we’ve both determined that it’s the natural end.”
The Sun notes Colleen was diagnosed with cancer in April 2021 when she and Jon were getting ready to go their separate ways. Jon decided to stick by her side to support her through that time. But now, in August 2021, they’re officially over.
Is Kate Gosselin married?
While Jon Gosselin is newly single, what about Kate Gosselin? The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star had her own dating reality show, Kate Plus Date. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to work. Distractify notes Kate is still single today and certainly not married.
Instead of dating, it seems Kate Gosselin’s been busy selling her house. According to Daily Mail, Kate sold the Pennsylvania home she filmed Jon & Kate Plus 8 in for under $1.1 million. She initially put the house up for sale at $1.3 million in October 2020 and it sold in January 2021. Jon and Kate bought the house in 2008 for $1.1 million, so it seems she didn’t profit from the sale. She now lives in North Carolina.
It looks like Jon might be moving south, too. He told The Sun he planned to move to Florida and leave Pennsylvania behind. We’ll have to wait and see if that plan is still in motion.
