Jonathan Antin From Bravo’s ‘Blow Out’ Shades Jackie Warner From ‘Work Out’
Just because you work at the same network, doesn’t mean you are going to gel in real life. Celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Antin from Blow Out and fitness expert Jackie Warner from Work Out, two of Bravo‘s seminal stars didn’t seem to have that chemistry. In fact, Antin did not seem to have any love for Warner.
At the time, Bravo was fueled by series like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List, Work Out and Blow Out. The Housewives franchise was only a glimmer in Andy Cohen’s eye.
Work Out was sprung from the success of Blow Out. In order to bridge the shows, Bravo wanted Antin to give Warner a haircut, which he reluctantly (and finally) did. But he certainly didn’t enjoy it.
Jonathan Antin refused to cut Jackie Warner’s hair
Cohen and other Bravo executives wanted Warner to make a visit to Antin’s salon, but he said no. “It said in my contract that I do who I want, I do what I want, I hire and fire who I want,” he said on the Hot Takes and Deep Dives podcast. “It’s reality, not scripted. And I don’t wanna do her hair.”
“I don’t know her,” he continued. “If she wants to make an appointment and come in and pay, I’ll do her!” He says Bravo wanted to have Warner on Blow Out to “blow her up” and “I wasn’t into it.”
After five producers called and begged him nonstop he finally relented. “She came in and I did her,” he recalled. “She was kinda like, you know … not the sweetest girl in the world.” Adding, “She was kind of playing a character while I was doing her hair. She kept saying to me, ‘Don’t cut it too short!’ She was kind of being like Tabatha [Coffey].”
The two butted heads
“She was trying to be tougher than me,” he continued. “I walked over to my show runner and was like, ‘Is this chick for real?’ Like she’s telling me how to do her hair? People don’t tell me how to do their hair. People ask me how I feel their hair should be done.”
“She was telling me how to do it,” he said. “And she was kind of being loud and a little abrasive. I basically turned to her and said, ‘Hey, just so you know like I don’t care if the cameras are on, but like, you’re filming a pilot. I’m filming an episode. A TV show. Not all pilots go, so don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched.”
He reminded her that her show was a spin-off of his show. “She got all funky and weird,” he recounted. “She got up and was like, ‘I’m not doing this horrible … either way he’s talking to me. And blah, blah, blah.’ And I was like, ‘Cool, she can go.’ They calmed her down and calmed me down. We finished the haircut and she left.” Later once Work Out was picked up, producers asked Antin to appear on Warner’s show for a work out. “I was like, ‘No way.’ I had more than enough of her in my chair.”
