Josh Allen Once Accused Aaron Rodgers of Cheating at a Golf Tournament
Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers might face off most often on the football field, but Allen is calling Rodgers’ abilities into question when it comes to a different sport. During a podcast appearance last year, Allen accused the Jets signal-caller of cheating during a golf tournament. The Bills captain said he thought Rodgers was “sandbagging” the competition after he finished behind him during the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Josh Allen questioned Aaron Rodgers’ golf ethics
When Josh Allen isn’t dazzling on the field for the Buffalo Bills, he likes to keep himself active. One way he does that is on the golf course. He isn’t the only NFL star who enjoys a round of golf, and he’s even faced off against some of them.
During an appearance on Pardon My Take in 2023, Allen openly discussed his appearance during the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. While Josh Allen finished the tournament in third place, Aaron Rodgers came in first, alongside his professional partner, Ben Silverman. Allen insists that it really didn’t count because Rodgers was “sandbagging.” In short, Allen accused Rodgers of downplaying his golf prowess to receive a better handicap. Allen noted he came into the tournament receiving 10 strokes when he should have gotten three or four.
While Allen’s swipe at Rodgers was all in good fun, professional golfer Keith Mitchell took the loss more personally. Mitchell, who partnered with Allen in the 2023 tournament, questioned Rodgers’ handicap almost immediately. According to Golf, Mitchell called the handicap “crap” and insisted that coming in close to Rodgers was as good as winning, considering the handicap.
Rodgers appeared in the 2024 tournament, too
While Rodgers and his golf partner took home the trophy during the 2023 golf tournament, the signal-caller didn’t have as much luck the following year. Rodgers played in the famed pro-am tournament in 2024 but didn’t finish in the top 5.
Rodgers played alongside Beau Hossler in 2024 and had a much smaller handicap for the tournament. He only received four strokes, which appeared to make things a bit more fair. Allen for the tournament in 2024, too. Just like his nemesis, Rodgers, his results in 2024 were less impressive.
It’s unclear if the NFL stars will face off on the golf course again anytime soon. While Buffalo is heading into the playoffs, the New York Jets are barreling toward the end of their season. While Allen has had a great season with his team, Rodgers and the Jets haven’t found much success.
