Joshua Bassett Almost Played This Character in Netflix’s ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’
Joshua Bassett portrays Ricky in Disney+’sHigh School Musical: The Musical: The Series. However, this actor almost starred in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in a role that evidently went to another Disney alumni.

Joshua Bassett portrays Ricky in ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’
Some know him as the inspiration behind “Driver’s License.” Bassett is one of the stars of the Disney+ original mockumentary, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, which featured the music from Disney Channel’s High School Musical.
This actor appeared as the singing, guitar-playing, and skateboarding high school student named Ricky, who joins the high school musical production of High School Musical in an attempt to win his ex-girlfriend back.
The two characters eventually start dating again, even if that’s made complicated by Nini’s season 2 decision to go to a performing arts high school. There are even original songs showcased in this Disney+ mockumentary.
Joshua Bassett almost starred in ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’
Bassett had several roles with Disney and their productions. However, he almost had a role in a very different series. That was Netflix’s original mystery, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Kiernan Shipka.
“I was really close to the role in Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” Bassett said, according to Screenrant. “It was down to me and Ross Lynch. And he got it, I’m super happy for him. But yeah, I was definitely, like, really hoping for that one.”
“There’s a couple [of] others. But that one, I guess, stands out to the one where… I was like, I got really close,” he continued. “And I was really excited about it. And it just didn’t work out. But, ultimately, everything worked out.”
Lynch appeared as this character for several seasons of the Netflix original series. Prior to that, he starred in Disney Channel shows like Austin & Ally and the original films Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2.
Joshua Bassett also records music as a solo artist
Aside from his acting, Bassett releases music as a solo artist. His original “Lie, Lie, Lie” earned over 20 million plays on the streaming platform, Spotify. He even put on a virtual concert for fans, titled “A Night with Joshua Bassett.”
This actor returned for season 2 of the Disney+ mockumentary, starring as his character and writing original songs for the production. There, he starred alongside performers like Olivia Rodrigo and Sofia Wylie.
