Although fans expect season 2 of 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' to premiere during Fall 2020, Joshua Bassett shared that the cast stopped filming new episodes. Here's what we learned from the actor.

Fans might have to wait a little longer for new episodes of this Disney+ original series. During one Instagram Live, however, cast member Joshua Bassett shared that season 2 is well worth the anticipation. Here’s what Joshua Bassett shared about future episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Disney+ renewed its original series, ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ for its second season

The cast of East High School is getting ready for their next stage production. This time, Disney+ revealed, the cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is tackling a tale as old as time — Beauty and the Beast. A post to Instagram revealed that season 2 had their first table read during February 2020.

This was only a few weeks following the finale of season 1, which, honestly, left viewers on a bit of a cliffhanger. Although some fans expected season 2 to premiere on Disney+ during 2020, Joshua Bassett shared that the cast stopped filming due to social distancing and “stay-at-home” orders.

‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ has since paused production on future episodes

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some cast members of this Disney+ original series took to social media to connect with fans. For one Instagram Live with Any Gabrielly, Joshua Bassett discussed his experience with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

When he was asked for spoilers about the show’s second season, Joshua Bassett, who portrays Ricky, declined to share anything about the plot. He did, however, say that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series paused production.

“I will not spoil anything about the second season, but I will tell you that we had to obviously hold on filming, but what we’ve done so far is my favorite thus far,” Bassett said. “It blew the first season out of the park so I’m super stoked for people to get to see the next season, I am pumped about it.”

This wouldn’t be the first Disney production impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Movies have since moved to the company’s streaming platform ahead of schedule, including Frozen 2 and Pixar’s Onward. Disney postponed the theatrical premiere of Marvel’s Black Widow and the live-action adaptation of Mulan.

When will the next season of this mockumentary premiere?

Season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was set to premiere during Fall 2020 — about a year after the premiere of season 1. However, Disney tweaked the release schedule for Marvel movies and television school, so potentially, the release date for this Disney+ mockumentary may change.

There was never an official release date for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2. Still, viewers can’t wait to see how the next production at East High School will turn out. Until the new season premieres, fans can watch episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 1 on Disney’s streaming platform.
