Josiah Carter from ‘Below Deck’ Shares Why He’d be Perfect for ‘Below Deck Med’
He was only on Below Deck for one season, but fans just can’t seem to quit Josiah Carter.
The second stew with the dry sense of humor and unyielding goal to get the job done won the hearts of not only fans but a number of crew members and guests alike. So when Carter recently tweeted he’d love to join the Below Deck Mediterranean crew, fans wondered why he wanted to go to the Med and not back on Below Deck?
Carter told fans on social media that he was simply not asked to join the Below Deck cast on their next adventure. He wasn’t sure why he wasn’t invited back but told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about why the Med may be an ideal place for the trained butler to shine.
He remained by his mother’s side during cancer treatments
Even though Carter says he was disappointed not to be asked back again, he was home to support his mother during cancer treatments. He posted about his mother Kairen’s breast cancer fight. She endured both chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Like most cancer warriors, Kairen lost her hair during chemo. When she successfully completed treatment Carter decided to raise money for the Mustard Tree Cancer Support Centre. The organization provided support for the family and Carter wanted to give back. He raised an impressive £6,710. Plus, he allowed his family to shave his head.
He reports that his mother is on her way to healing and recovery. “Her hair is growing back,” he says. “All of her fingernails fell off from the chemo. But everything is getting back to normal now, which is good.”
Carter doesn’t speak to this former close friend
Carter says during his time back home, he and chief stew Kate Chastain drifted apart. The two quickly became fast friends and a solid team on Below Deck.
But since the reunion wrapped, Carter hasn’t heard from Chastain. “She doesn’t speak to me anymore,” he said. “I have no idea why. When we filmed the reunion, we were fine.” The two were so close they even got tattoos together.
Carter and Chastain tried to meet up after the reunion, but plans didn’t work out. Once Chastain left to film the next season, that was it. He hasn’t heard from her since. He’s messaged her a few times, but she either didn’t respond or left messages unopened. “Maybe she’s just busy,” he concludes. “I thought Kate was really cool and fun. But I don’t know.” He adds, “But no one is too busy to reply, ‘I’m good how are you?'”
This is why he’d be perfect for Below Deck Med
Although hasn’t been in touch with Chastain, Below Deck Med cast members are reaching out to Carter. On Twitter, he started a chain that had Captain Sandy Yawn and deckhand Colin Macy-O’Toole beckoning him to join their cast.
So why the Med? “I had so much fun doing all the aspects of the show,” Carter says. “It was another country to check off my list with Tahiti. But when I saw the adverts for the Med, it’s interesting because I’ve done the Med loads of times.” Not only does he recognize a number of locations on the Below Deck Med season, but he’s even living in the Mediterranean.
He adds the reason he tweeted was that the Below Deck Med trailers looked fun (they did), plus he has all this experience and insider knowledge navigating the Med too. He is currently living in scenic Mallorca, Spain, taking in the sights and indulging in the culture.
Below Deck Med All-Stars?
Carter has formed a bond with some of the Below Deck Med cast members already. “I’ve met Colin and I’ve met Captain Sandy,” Carter says. “And they’re great and so much fun. I love them. I’d love to work for Captain Sandy.”
Someone else Carter would love to work with again is deckhand Rhylee Gerber. “I love Rhylee,” he exclaims. He adds he and Chastain didn’t realize the amount of grief Gerber received from the deck crew until the show aired.
“After we watched the show we thought, ‘Oh my God, she’s done really well because I would have killed someone’,” he laughed. During their season together, he and Gerber were on the late shift. “So we’d pack up the boat together and have a good chat,” he says. “We got along really well. Plus she’s so much fun.”
Gerber agrees. “That would be a great time and I love Josiah,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Maybe a new season of the show should feature Yawn at the helm, along with Gerber running the deck crew and Carter handling the interior? This is one team fans would likely love.
