Joy-Anna Duggar Denies She Dyed Hair Darker Despite Recent Photos
Joy-Anna Duggar’s been featured countless times on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On over the years. Now, she’s giving fans an inside look into her life with her husband, Austin Forsyth, and their two kids via Instagram. And fans are convinced Joy-Anna keeps dying her hair a darker shade. Here’s how she responded.
Joy-Anna Duggar appeared to dye her hair darker recently
The Duggars grew up with ultra-strict rules, and they didn’t seem to change up their style until moving out of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s huge family home. While the Duggar women had to wear long skirts and tops that significantly covered their shoulders and neckline as kids, many of them are now stepping into their own style. And it looks like Joy-Anna is also headed in a more modern direction.
Back in January 2021, Joy-Anna posted photos of her and Austin from a photoshoot. “New Year. New Hair,” she captioned a post, as she got a fresh cut with new bangs. But fans and critics alike are now wondering if Joy-Anna dyed her hair a darker color.
“I love the darker color hair and bangs on you,” one fan commented on a recent post of Joy-Anna.
Reddit users also suspect Joy-Anna dyed her hair once more.
“Is this pic recent?” one Reddit user wrote. “If it is, then she definitely dyed it AGAIN. She posted something like a week ago and I could see her lighter roots so if this pic is from the last few days she dyed it AGAIN.”
Joy-Anna Duggar denied changing up her hair color
While fans are convinced Joy-Anna dyed her hair a darker shade given recent photo evidence, it looks like she’s denying the rumors.
“Hair color or lighting?” one fan asked Joy-Anna on the photo of her and Austin posted on Feb. 19.
“It’s the lighting!” Joy-Anna answered — though other fans are disagreeing.
“It literally has to be hair color,” another fan posted prior to Joy-Anna’s comment on the same photo.
Reddit users also suspect Joy-Anna’s not being honest about dyeing her hair.
“It’s super dark,” a Reddit user wrote. “I can’t see how she didn’t. What’s the purpose of her saying no though if she did. Is it against their religion to dye hair?”
“I don’t understand how she expects us to believe she hasn’t,” yet another critic wrote. “Your hair has always been light brown and now you have bangs and it’s d*mn near black.”
Are the Duggars allowed to cut their hair?
Whether Joy-Anna did or didn’t dye her hair is totally up to her to disclose. But others are wondering if the Duggars are allowed to cut or color their hair at all. The answer is yes to both, though there’s a strong preference for long hair due to religious reasons.
“Our hairstyle is our choice and we choose longer hair based on our understanding of 1 Corinthians 11:14-15,” the Duggar sisters wrote in Growing Up Duggar. This Bible passage also notes that it’s a “disgrace” for men to have long hair, but it is a woman’s “glory” to have long hair. “For long hair is given to her as a covering,” the passage continues.
None of the Duggar women have cut their hair to an ultra-short length, but they have played around with various cuts and colors. Jill Duggar got a ton of length chopped at the end of 2019, but she noted she discussed the decision extensively with her husband, Derick Dillard, before committing. In the end, Derick seemed to love the cut, though.
