Justin Bieber, Cardi B, and Other Celebs Weigh In On the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich
Every day, it seems like more people are lining up at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen to taste its beloved chicken sandwich. In the weeks since its Aug. 12 debut, the sub has become a phenomenon, drawing record crowds and lines, and prompting hundreds of thousands of tweets.
As the momentum continues to grow, even celebrities are going out to get their hands on one of the sandwiches. And while many of them love it, others aren’t so impressed.
What is the Popeyes chicken sandwich?
In case you’ve been living under a rock and missed all of this, the chain debuted the sub back in August. It features fried chicken and pickles on a brioche bun. Customers also have the option to add either mayonnaise or a cajun spread to the dish.
It’s the restaurant’s first-ever chicken sandwich, so of course, it inspired a nationwide craze. By the end of August, the sub had sold out around the United States.
Luckily for fans, Popeyes re-released the dish in early November, noting that it’s here to stay for good.
Positive celebrity reactions to the sandwich
Multiple celebrities claim that the sandwich lives up to the hype. Cardi B, for example, raved about it in August on Instagram Live, gushing about how much the patty and bread “go together.”
Tamar Braxton seemed to agree in a separate video. Though the taste left her speechless, her face seemed to say it all.
The burger also got the stamp of approval from “Cash Sh*t” rapper Megan Thee Stallion. “[Popeyes] might’ve did something with that one!” she said on Instagram Live, pointing at the sandwich.
NFL star Deshaun Watson even credited the dish with helping heal his eye injury.
Other supporters include Gayle King, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey, Quavo and Diplo.

Negative celebrity reactions to the sandwich
There are arguably just as many stars who weren’t as satisfied with the sub, including Justin Bieber. The “Sorry” singer said in a Nov. 7 video, “It’s good but it’s not worth the hype.”
Rapper Lil Boosie echoed Bieber’s sentiments, calling it “regular” in an Instagram post.
America’s Next Top Model alum Isis King was also among the critics. In a Nov. 3 Twitter post, the reality star said the sub was “OK,” explaining that she was “expecting more.”
But some celebrities have criticized the sandwich for reasons other than its taste. Rapper Casey Veggies just can’t understand the craze, which has resulted in at least one death and multiple fights.
Veggies tweeted on Nov. 6, “The way everybody going crazy over this Popeyes chicken sandwich is a prime example why this world so f*cked up, that sh*t is not that good lol”
Rapper Cyhi The Prince, who is signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music label, made a similar comment on Nov. 8:
You can decide for yourself, though. As we mentioned earlier, Popeyes said the sandwich is officially here to stay, so it’s ready whenever you are.
