Justin Bieber has grown up before our very eyes. The singer came splashing onto the scene at age 15 in 2009 becoming the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Bieber was a clean-cut pretty boy, dazzling people with his voice for years until he began to shift toward a bad boy phase.

Now, Bieber has matured emotionally and musically, getting candid about the perils of fame, and focusing on his music and his marriage to supermodel Hailey Bieber. Over the years, Bieber has developed an affinity for tattoos, which chronicle various life stages and have different meanings behind them.

However, the “Peaches” singer has pledged never to get any ink on one specific part of his body.

How many tattoos does Justin Bieber have?

Bieber has over 60 tattoos on various parts of his body. Most of his tattoos are sprawled across his arms, on his torsos, and even on his legs. “If [tattoos] didn’t hurt, everyone would have them. Well, maybe not [everyone]!! Over a hundred hours of artwork on my body, and I wouldn’t take back a single one,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “I absolutely love art, and I’ve made my body a canvas, and it’s so much fun.”

From crosses symbolizing his faith and spirituality to angel wings and the scripture Psalm 119:105 to his mother’s eyes and everything in between, it’s clear that Bieber’s extensive ink represents his life’s journey.

Justin Bieber got his first tattoo when he was 17

When Bieber first stepped onto the music scene, he was tattoo-free. He later revealed that he got his very first tattoo when he was 17. “The first tattoo I got was this little guy right here,” Bieber told GQ, pointing to a small bird on his abdomen. “It’s based on this book that my whole family read… about this seagull who wanted to be more than just a seagull.”

Bieber explained that his entire family has the same tattoo on various parts of their bodies.

For his very first work of ink, Bieber said he didn’t want it to be visible, which is why he chose his abdomen.

Justin Bieber refuses to get tattoos on his hands

In a recent interview with Sirius XM’s The Morning Mash Up, Bieber revealed that though he’s running out of room on his body when it comes to fitting in more tattoos, there is one place that’s off-limits for him.

“I promised myself I didn’t want to get tattoos on my hands,” he said. “So I don’t think I’m going to get tattoos on my hands. Something about just being able to wear a suit and not having tattoos on my hands, I don’t know. But that’s really one of my only places left [to get ink], or my feet or my legs.”

Bieber also shared that he’s hoping to get tattoos for any future children that he might have. “My back is still pretty open, and I don’t have kids yet,” Bieber said in his 2020 YouTube documentary, Justin Bieber: Next Chapter. “And so I’m thinking of getting their portraits on my back.”
