Celebrity couples are always breaking up, getting back together, breaking up again, marrying someone new… It’s an endless cycle and a constant source of shocking headlines. The couple most recently in the headlines after a bizarre divorce? Justin Hartley and Chrishell Stause.

The pair of soap opera stars announced their divorce late last year, but it was the manner in which it came about that was so strange. Apparently, one half of this pair was notified in a text message that their marriage was over. Ouch. Not the classiest way to go about things. Plus, the whole situation looks an awful lot like his first divorce…

Who is Justin Hartley?

Justin Hartley is best known for his role as Kevin in NBC’s hit series This Is Us. Hartley had a passion for acting at a young age and seriously began to hone his skills while he was in college. He majored in history and theater at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the University of Illinois at Chicago and moved to L.A. right after graduation to pursue an acting career.

Hartley landed his first major role in 2002 on the daytime soap, Passions. He played Fox Crane until 2006, then joined the cast of the CW’s Smallville in 2006. Hartley showed off his acting skills as the billionaire playboy, Oliver Queen, who also happened to be the superhero Green Arrow. While working on Smallville, the talented actor also wrote and directed a couple of episodes.

When Smallville ended after its 10th season, Hartley had numerous guest and supporting roles in television series, including Chuck and Castle. He then played the part of Patrick Osbourne in Revenge and joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in the role of Adam Newman. His work on Y&R earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Who was he married to first?

Hartley married his first wife, Lindsay Korman, in 2004. The couple welcomed their daughter, Isabella, just a few months after they were married. They divorced in 2012, due to irreconcilable differences, according to Film Daily.

Although they divorced, the pair remains close to this day. Hartley has been very involved in his daughter’s life, and Korman still refers to him as a friend. In a recent statement, she defended him in regard to his current divorce, saying “Today, I appreciate my ex-husband Justin for not only being exemplification of a solid man but for being my dear friend and devoted father to our daughter.”

Korman might be on good terms with Hartley now, but the circumstances surrounding his first divorce bear striking similarities to his current situation. After many years with both wives, he suddenly filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In both cases, he began dating another soap star almost immediately after the divorces. Some might say this is starting to look like a pattern.

Did he tell Chrishell Stause that he was leaving her in a text message?

How ‘This Is Us’ Star Justin Hartley Really Feels About ‘The Young and the Restless’ Replacement Mark Grossman

Hartley and Stause met while both working on soap operas–he was on The Young and the Restless and she was on Days of Our Lives. They dated for four years and then married in 2017.

Chrishell Stause currently stars in the Netflix original, Selling Sunset. The reality series follows the drama that goes along with selling high-end real estate in L.A. The star sometimes mentioned her hubby, Hartley, during the show.

In November 2019, Stause was filming season three of the popular show. After auctioning off a This Is Us script along with a date with her handsome husband, Stause was taken by surprise when she received a text message from Hartley, saying that he filed for a divorce.

Although Stause confirmed that there were issues in the relationship, she claimed they were working on it together. She was completely shocked by the news and associated it with Hartley’s lack of impulse control.

A few months later, Hartley’s Instagram account no longer had any photos of Stause–not even from their wedding. He was spotted sharing a kiss with his Y&R co-star, Sofia Pernas. The pair adopted a dog together and appear to be in a serious relationship. Hartley heard that Stause had discussed their divorce on the show, and he wasn’t too happy about their business being aired in public.
