What Justin Timberlake Once Said About Getting ‘Road Rage so Badly’: ‘I’m an A**hole’
Since Justin Timberlake’s June 18 DWI arrest in Long Island, New York, some of the “SexyBack” singer’s quotes have resurfaced for better or for worse, but mostly worse. Among them is one in which the Grammy winner admitted to often getting a bad case of road rage.
Justin admitted to being an ‘a**hole’ behind the wheel in 2006
18 years prior to being charged with driving while intoxicated after reportedly blowing a stop sign and driving on the wrong side of the road in the Hamptons village of Sag Harbor, New York, the NSYNC alum touched on his “road rage.”
Timberlake picked up his interviewer in a black Porsche 911 convertible outside Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California, as part of a 2006 GQ cover story.
(TBH, the passage gives this writer flashbacks to Cameron Diaz’s driving scene in My Best Friend’s Wedding, where her character speeds down the freeway with an uncomfortable Julia Roberts in the passenger seat.)
According to the profile, Timberlake left the famed hotel fast. Like, really fast. The interviewer used the words “peels out.” At that point, the “Mirrors” singer “almost” ran over rapper Yasiin Bey, formerly Mos Def, as he walked up the hotel’s driveway.
The Trolls star then accelerated “rather abruptly out onto Sunset Boulevard.” Moments later, he came close to “clipping another (lesser) vehicle” as they went down the street.
Only then did the topic of “road rage” come up. “You know when I’m an asshole,” the now-43-year-old said. “In traffic. I get road rage so badly.”
“I’m on my best behavior today,” Timberlake added. “But I get road rage like you wouldn’t believe!”
Other past Justin Timberlake comments have resurfaced since his DWI arrest
In addition to Timberlake’s comments about road rage, other quotes about drinking and drug use have resurfaced following his arrest.
“What I really think is that I’ve never done anything that bad,” he told the Observer Music Monthly in 2006 (via Today). “I don’t show up drunk to functions; the drugs that I do have been in my own private time. I’ve never been arrested—though that’s not to say that I won’t.”
Timberlake also opened up about finding himself in situations with “women, drugs and debauchery,” saying: “Like everyone else—I get completely plastered.”
Admitting to doing his “fair share of drugs” and being “caught in places with” his “pants down,” the actor and singer said he “make[s] sure there are no cameras around.”
Another Timberlake quote making the rounds is from a pre-recorded video where he accepted a 2007 Brit Award.
“Stop drinking. You know who you are,” he said to the camera. “I’m speaking to you. Stop drinking, you’re going to get sloppy. OK! [Magazine] is going to say something bad about you.”
In the aforementioned interview with the road rage comment, Timberlake dismissed claims his words were for his ex, Britney Spears.
What’s next for Justin Timberlake following his DWI arrest?
Following his arrest and subsequent arraignment hearing—Timberlake’s wife, actor Jessica Biel, wasn’t there to see her husband get released on his own recognizance—the singer’s likely gearing up for his next shows as part of The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.
He’s set to perform in Chicago, Illinois, on June 21 and June 22, 2024. Then, he’ll return to New York, where he’ll perform two shows at Madison Square Garden.
As for what’s next legally for the “Cry Me a River” singer, he’s due back in court on July 16, 2024. The court date coincides with Timberlake’s Poland world tour date, meaning he’ll likely have to cancel or reschedule the appearance.
