Kailyn Lowry stepped away from the Teen Mom franchise in 2022, but the decision wasn’t easy. The mother of seven recently revealed that she toyed with quitting the franchise for about two years before ultimately taking the plunge. Despite her initial trepidation, Lowry admits she makes more money podcasting than she did working for MTV. So, how much do the stars of the Teen Mom franchise make?

How much do the ‘Teen Mom’ stars earn?

While MTV does not report salaries, several stars had to report their income during court cases. Jenelle Evans reportedly earned $400,000 during her final full season on the series. She reported her income during a CPS case in 2019. Amber Portwood was earning nearly $300,000 during one of her legal battles. It is believed that the cast of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter currently earns around $500,000 per season.

The cast’s current earnings don’t reflect what they were being paid during the earlier seasons of the series. Early seasons of Teen Mom allegedly found the cast earning about $50,000 for a season of filming. Thanks to the show’s popularity and longevity, salaries have increased exponentially over the years, including for side characters.

Kailyn Lowry earns more with podcasting than she did on ‘Teen Mom 2’

If Kailyn Lowry was, in fact, earning $400,000 for her time on Teen Mom 2, it’s easy to see why she would be so reluctant to walk away. The guaranteed income would certainly provide a sense of security Lowry lacked for much of her upbringing and young adulthood. So, what made her finally take the leap of faith?

During a chat with Us Weekly, Lowry credited her friend and former co-star, Chelsea Houska, with helping her make the final decision. Lowry revealed that she looked at the numbers and realized her podcasting career was taking off and had become a financial success. Still, she was reluctant to leave the guaranteed income of the series behind. Then, she said, she spoke to Houska, who encouraged her to make the move. Houska left Teen Mom 2 in 2020 and later landed a show on HGTV.

The decision was a good one. The podcast host insists she makes more money with her podcasts than she ever did with her role on Teen Mom 2. Lowry did not reveal how much she’s earning these days with her podcasting empire, but it’s safe to assume it’s more than enough to keep things running smoothly. Earlier this year, Lowry revealed she is building a new home for her supersized family. She and her fiance, Elijah Scott, have purchased a large plot of land, but it’s unclear if they’ve broken ground. We assume The home will include a pretty epic podcasting space.
