Kanye West Bought Kim Kardashian a $91.5K Bracelet For Her 32nd Birthday
Celebrity power couples. They’ve been a huge phenomenon over the years, from Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball to Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.
People seem to love watching the rich and famous go through relationships, and will root for their favorite couples to stay together. One of the biggest celebrity power couples right now has been dubbed “Kimye” — the relationship between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
The two have been married for years, and continue to stay in the public eye, sometimes controversially. Nonetheless, they’re a major couple, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll lose any fame anytime soon.
One of the reasons people are so attracted to celebrity power couples is to live vicariously through them. Kim and Kanye are both incredibly rich, and since most of us will never have their level of wealth, we can watch them and imagine what being that rich would be like. A normal person might drop a few hundreds on a major gift; Kim and Kanye can afford thousands. So, what kind of gifts are the mega-rich buying?
Kimye West and Kim Kardashian West
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have known each other since the early 2000s, but it would be at least a decade before they got together. In 2012, Kim and Kanye started officially dating. At that time, Kim Kardashian was still finalizing her divorce from NBA star Kris Humphries, and in late 2013 Kim and Kanye were engaged. In 2014, they married in a ceremony that was widely publicized.
Kim and Kanye’s marriage has lasted far longer than the short-lived one with Kris Humphries. Before the wedding, Kim and Kanye had their first child, North; in 2015 they had Saint. Due to serious medical issues, the two had to have a surrogate’s help with their youngest two children: Chicago, born in 2018, and Psalm, born in 2019.
Trouble in paradise?
Despite what’s seemed like a stable and committed marriage, there have been rumors of serious conflict. Kanye West has stirred a lot of controversy lately due to his affiliation with right-wing politics and public mental health issues. Kim Kardashian has been more stable, and while she’s given public support for her husband and his struggles with bipolar disorder, it’s likely that there are some conflicts brewing in the marriage.
There are reports that the two are living apart: Kanye alone in Wyoming, and Kim in California with their children. Perhaps they just needed some space to work things out, but it’s possible that this separation is a signal of the end of their 9-year relationship. However, we can’t know for sure.
Expensive gifts Kanye West gave to Kim Kardashian West
One thing we do know about this couple is their penchant for luxury, and expensive gifts. According to Page Six, the engagement ring that Kanye proposed with was worth $2 million; after the ring was stolen in the infamous Paris robbery he replaced it with one worth $4.5 million.
Just recently, he purchased five Mercedes SUVs as a Christmas gift for Kardashian, and he was responsible for the hologram of her father at Kim’s 40th birthday party.
In 2013, for Kim’s 32nd birthday, Kanye surprised her with another ridiculously expensive piece of jewelry.
While it wasn’t over $1 million like the engagement rings, a $91.5 thousand bracelet is nothing to sneeze at. The bracelet was a Panthére de Cartier, made of gold and studded with diamonds, onyx, and emerald. Cartier is one of the companies that has taken steps to address labor conditions in jewelry production.
These steps do raise the cost of production, but it’s far more ethical than a less expensive company using unfair labor practices.
This may not have factored into Kanye’s decision, but perhaps with Kim’s growing interest in social issues, the two will use their massive fame to address this issue.
