Kanye West seemed to always have strong feelings for Kim Kardashian even before they were an item. Kardashian’s family could see how passionate West was about the SKIMS mogul. So when West and Kardashian finally became a thing, her family felt the two were initially a perfect match.

Kardashian and West’s love story started unfolding more than a decade before the pair married on May 24, 2014. West seemed to immediately fancy the reality TV star when they first crossed paths. Unfortunately for West, Kardashian was in a committed relationship at the time. Still, that didn’t stop the pair from constantly running into each other.

“I met Kanye in 2002,” Kardashian said in an episode of E! True Hollywood Stories (via People). “He would ask everyone who I was, and they always said like, ‘Oh, she has a boyfriend’. We just always kept on connecting and coming into each other’s lives.”

West asserted that he was repeatedly drawn to Kardashian despite her relationship status at the time.

“Any time I was around her and I saw her, it was magnetic attraction to this force of energy. She was good, pure, happy, loving, brave, courageous, strong,” West said.

According to Kardashian, the two officially started dating when he invited her to his fashion show. But before then, Kardashian’s sisters seemed to like the idea of her dating West more than she did.

”We’ve known Kanye since 2006 or 2007. And he’s always been into [Kim] and loved her. He just always was so obsessed with her – in a good way,” Khloé Kardashian once said on The Talk (via Contact Music). “And I just thought that was so cute, and she was like, ‘No we’re just friends or whatever.’ And I just was like, ‘I think that you two are so similar with fashion or whatever you guys are both into.’ And so I said ‘Just give him a shot.’”

”And then one day — I don’t know what happened, she acts like it was her idea, like I never said, ‘Wait, I think I really like Kanye.’ And I was like ‘Hello! I’ve been telling you for years,’” Khloé added.

Khloé Kardashian felt Kim Kardashian gained a newfound confidence after divorcing Kanye West

Kardashian and West lasted for a long time but didn’t last forever as they might’ve hoped. Kardashian filed for divorce from the multi-platinum artist on February 19, 2021, before divorcing him in November 2022. In an interview with Vogue, Kardashian confided that one of the reasons she divorced West was simply to be happy.

“For so long, I did what made other people happy. And I think in the last two years I decided, I’m going to make myself happy,” she said.

After realizing the importance of choosing herself in a relationship, Kardashian shared she was going to dedicate the next chapter of her life to self-improvement.

I’m going to eat well. I’m going to work out. I’m going to have more fun, spend more time with my kids and the people who make me happy,” she said.

Her sister Khloé also noticed that divorcing West created more positive effects on Kardashian such as newfound confidence.

“Not that she wasn’t confident before,” Khloé once told GQ. “But it’s a different assurance that she has in herself. She knows she can do it on her own. She knows the power that she has within herself, as opposed to thinking the power was in someone else’s hands.”
