Kanye West posted about Taylor Swift before quitting X

On Sunday, Swift attended the Super Bowl to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce compete against the Philadelphia Eagles. During the halftime show, she joined over 100 million others in watching Kendrick Lamar perform “Not Like Us,” his diss track about Drake. West expressed his frustration with both Lamar and Swift on X.

“IF ITS ABOUT THE CULTURE … WHY ARE WE LETTING TAYLOR SWIFT BE SEEN ON TV SINGING A SONG ABOUT TAKING A BLACK MAN DOWN AND ACCUSING OF THINGS THAT CAN TAKE A BLACK MAN DOWN FOR LIFE,” he wrote.

Not long afterward, he appeared to delete his account. In his goodbye post, he thanked Elon Musk and his remaining fans.

“I’m logging out of Twitter,” he posted. “I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board. It was like an Ayahuasca trip. Love all of you who gave me your energy and attention. To we connect again. Good afternoon and good night.”

His recent activity on the platform has been widely condemned

The decision to deactivate his account came after widespread backlash against his posts. In a recent series of rants, West voiced his absolute support of Sean “Diddy” Combs, said he had “dominion” over wife Bianca Censori, described himself as a Nazi, and praised Hitler, among other things. He temporarily lost access to his account in 2022 for similar antisemitic posts.

West faced a great deal of pushback for the posts, with some calling on Musk to ban him from the platform.

“We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk,” Friends star David Schwimmer wrote on Instagram. “Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews … Silence is complicity.”

Before West deleted his account, there was a “sensitive content warning” attached to it for his use of slurs, but he was still able to freely post.

Just a week before the Super Bowl, West appeared to be feeling more positively about Swift. On Feb. 2, he shared an Instagram story that showed he had unfollowed every single person on the platform besides Swift.
